Frisco RoughRiders News Release
The RoughRiders defeated Corpus Christi 19-4 Friday night from Dr Pepper Ballpark behind a season-high 24 hits and franchise record eight home runs. Frisco's 19 runs scored tied a franchise high.
The RoughRiders jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on Tommy Mendonca's first of his three home runs. Renny Osuna, who scored on Mendonca's homer, earned his 300th hit with the Frisco RoughRiders organization on a leadoff triple.
The 'Riders scored six runs in the second inning and chased Corpus Christi's starter Jonnathan Aristil after only an inning and a third of work. Robbie Diaz, who was 4-for-5, belted a solo shot to leadoff the frame and was followed up with RBI hits by Osuna and Davis Stoneburner. Mendonca capped off the inning with his second homer of the game.
Corpus Christi's four runs came on four solo home runs. Jimmy Paredes homered in the third, Kody Hinze and Chris Wallace went back-to-back in the fourth, and Jonathan Villar went yard in the fifth.
Frisco retaliated in the seventh inning as they hit three home runs in the inning. Engel Beltre and Jonathan Greene went back-to-back as Beltre hit his first of the season. Mendonca followed suit with his third two-run homer of the game.
The 'Riders starter, Ben Snyder, improved to 8-2 on the season with the win after going five innings and allowing four runs.
Johan Yan and Tanner Scheppers combined for four-scoreless innings of three hit baseball in relief of Snyder.
The second of this four-game series will start at 7:05 p.m. Saturday from Dr Pepper Ballpark. Frisco's Carlos Pimentel will take the mound against Ross Seaton for Corpus Christi.
