
Andrew Dobies Assigned to Naturals

SPRINGDALE, AR - Over the past two days, The Kansas City Royals made two transactions affecting the Northwest Arkansas roster. The related details are as follows:
Left-hander Andrew Dobies was assigned to the Naturals' roster after having his contract purchased from the Somerset Patriots of the independent Atlantic League. In 2011, his second season with Somerset, Dobies appeared in 28 games, posting a 2-3 record with a 2.81 ERA and a team-leading total of five saves. Dobies struck out 31 and walked three in 28 innings as a member of the Patriots.
A 28-year-old native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Dobies was originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 2004 draft after playing collegiately at the University of Virginia. In 2010, Dobies spent time in both the Red Sox and Chicago White Sox organizations, totaling a 3-4 record with a 5.64 ERA for Double-A Portland, Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte.
After Thursday's game, right-hander Manauris Baez was placed on the 7-day disabled list with a shoulder injury. Baez has appeared in 15 games for the Naturals this season, going 1-1 with a 4.46 ERA and 28 strikeouts against 15 walks in 38 1/3 innings. Baez began the season with Advanced-A Wilmington, posting a 1-1 record and a 2.23 ERA in eight games with the Blue Rocks. Baez' placement on the disabled list is retroactive to July 19.
The 25-year-old native of Santiago, Dominican Republic was signed by the Royals as a minor league free agent on Mar. 7, 2008. Baez began his professional career as a position player in the New York Yankees' organization before being released in May, 2007.
After the roster moves, the Naturals' roster remains at the Texas League limit of 24 active players.
