
Riders Beat Midland in Balanced Effort

FRISCO, Texas - The Frisco RoughRiders scored all their runs in two innings on Sunday, including a Thomas Saggese home run, and defeated the Midland RockHounds 8-1 at Riders Field.
By the sixth inning, all nine starters for Frisco (6-6, 37-43) had at least one base hit. Midland (8-4, 41-40) barely avoided a shutout by scrapping for a run in the eighth inning.
Frisco scored three runs in the third inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double by Scott Kapers, and added five runs in the fifth that began with Saggese's leadoff home run. Saggese went 10-for-22 on the series with two home runs and four doubles.
Dane Acker made his second start for the Riders and first in Frisco, holding Midland scoreless in three innings with three strikeouts. Justin Slaten (2-1) garnered the win by taking care of the next two innings without a run. David Leal (3-3) took the loss, going four innings with three earned runs.
Reid Birlingmair continued the shutout bid in the sixth and seventh innings while making his RoughRiders and Double-A debut. Eudrys Manon allowed one run in the eighth but struck out three before Antoine Kelly closed out the ninth inning without a score.
Luisangel Acuña went 1-for-4 on the day with his 12th single of the week, accounting for all 12 of his hits in 25 at bats versus Midland.
Kellen Strahm and Josh Hatcher both recorded a 2-for-4 evening, with Hatcher earning an RBI in the sixth inning. Jax Biggers went 1-for-1 with a pair of sacrifice flies.
Frisco and Midland split the series at three games apiece and the RoughRiders head into the All-Star break with a .500 record in the second half. The RoughRiders have split five consecutive series, the longest streak in recorded franchise history.
The RoughRiders now head into the All-Star break, which lasts through Thursday, July 13th. Frisco travels to Amarillo on Friday, July 14th for a three-game series and then returns home to face the San Antonio Missions for a six-game series from July 18th-23rd.
