Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
FRISCO - Neil Ramirez tossed six innings of two-hit ball Saturday night as the RoughRiders blanked Corpus Christi 3-0 in the series finale at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
The setback snaps the Hooks' winning streak at four.
Corpus Christi (42-26) starter David Martinez suffered his first loss of the season despite allowing one run on three hits over five innings. He struck out four and did not walk a batter.
Martinez (9-1) had retired seven in a row before Odubel Herrera lined a double into left-center to open the fifth. Following a sac bunt, Zach Zaneski hit a ground ball to a drawn-in Jio Mier at shortstop. Mier bobbled the ball and recovered in time to only get the out at first base. Hanser Alberto then cracked a triple into the right-field corner. Martinez bounced back and struck out Alejandro Selen to end the frame and hold the Hooks' deficit to 1-0.
Mike Foltynewicz entered in the sixth and allowed a lead-off knock to Teodoro Martinez. Guilder Rodriguez followed with a walk. A one-out single by Tomas Telis and a sac fly off the bat of Herrera put Frisco (38-30) up 3-0.
Ramirez (8-2), who walked three and struck out 10, was relieved by Richard Bleier. He fanned two over a pair of hitless innings.
Ben Rowen stranded two in the ninth to notch his 10th save.
The Texas League South first-half champs return to Whataburger Field Sunday night for a four-game series against San Antonio. Jake Buchanan (7-0) meets Donn Roach (4-6) in the Father's Day matchup. First pitch is 6:05.
