Springfield Cardinals News Release

Springfield, MO - Sunday's scheduled game between the Springfield Cardinals and the Tulsa Drillers has been postponed due to field conditions and impending inclement weather. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader at Hammons Field on Monday, starting at 5:09pm.

The Springfield Cardinals Groundscrew worked tirelessly for more than 13 hours straight from as soon as the rain stopped at 7:30am on Sunday morning until the the tarp had to be pulled again on Sunday evening to get the infield ready for baseball. However, with 10 inches of rain coming down on Saturday through Sunday morning, the moisture underneath the top layer of the infield remained too great, causing unstable and hazardous conditions on the infield.

With that level of moisture, Groundscrew members were literally sinking down inches in the dirt, and the field was unsafe for the players to play on despite every intention to get the game in. Storms throughout the area on Sunday evening then caused the tarp to be put on the field again.

The Cardinals and the Drillers will play a doubleheader on Monday, with the first of consecutive seven-innings games beginning at 5:09pm. Gates will open at 4:39pm. Tickets dated for Monday, June 17, 2013 will be good for both games.

The race for the First Half Title all comes down to Monday's doubleheader at Hammons Field, during which the Cardinals will wear the Stan Musial Tribute Jerseys as they were originally scheduled to on Sunday.

Tickets from the rained out June 16, 2013 game against the Tulsa Drillers may be exchanged for any remaining regular season game during the 2013 season. Tickets must be mailed or presented in person to the Cardinals Ticket Office, located at Gate 1 at Hammons Field, at anytime during the remainder of the 2013 season. Complimentary tickets are not exchangeable.
