Drillers Rained Out, Need 1 Win Monday for Title
June 16, 2013 - Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers and the Springfield Cardinals were rained out Sunday evening due to wet conditions at Hammons Field. Overnight rains Saturday left the infield unplayable and will now force a doubleheader between the two teams Monday night in Springfield.
The postponed game was supposed to be the opener of a four-game series, with the first two games determining the first-half champion in the Texas League's North Division. Tulsa will enter Monday's doubleheader with a one game lead over both Springfield and Arkansas, but the Travelers have only one game remaining in the half and are eliminated from the title chase.
The Drillers will need to win only one of the games to eliminate the Cardinals and clinch the first-half crown. If Springfield sweeps the doubleheader, the Redbirds will be first-half champions.
Tulsa is scheduled to start Christian Bergman (3-5, 3.10 ERA) and Sean Gallagher (3-0, 1.64 ERA) in the twin-bill. Springfield has not announced its pitching plans.
Starting time for the first game is scheduled for 5:09PM. Both games will be broadcast live in Tulsa on AM 1430 The Buzz. The games can also be heard online through TulsaDrillers.com or through the I Heart Radio app.
NOTES: Northwest Arkansas defeated Arkansas in 13 innings Sunday night, thanks to a home run from Rey Navarro. Position players Mitch Canham and Whit Merrifield pitched the final three innings for the Naturals.
