Riders add depth in CFL Canadian Draft

With their third round selection (20th overall), the Riders selected linebacker Yannick Carter from Wilfrid Laurier. Carter led the CIS last season with 10.5 quarterback sacks in eight regular season games. He was named a CIS and OUA First Team all-star at linebacker and was voted by his teammates as a team captain.

In the fourth round the Riders took Ryan Ackerman 28th overall. Ackerman started five games on the offensive line for the University of Regina Rams last year.

The Riders traded offensive lineman Matt O'Meara to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for a fifth round (35th overall) selection in today's draft.

With the 35th overall pick the Riders selected University of Montana running back Reggie Bradshaw. Bradshaw started his collegiate career at Louisville where he rushed for a 116 yards and a touchdown in 2004. After a knee injury he transferred to Montana where he dressed in all 13 games last season and had 572 rushing yards and ten touchdowns on 137 carries.

With their final pick in the fifth round (39th overall) the Riders selected Manitoba offensive lineman Ryan Karhut. Karhut played in the 2006 CIS East-West Football all-star game. He was also a Canada West all-star in 2005.
