Montreal Alouettes News Release
Montreal - The Alouettes have moved to further deepen the offensive line, Calgary lineman Richard Yalowsky their first pick in the 2007 CFL Canadian Draft.
"He's extremely athletic and mobile and is an outstanding presence on the line," said Montreal offensive line coach Charlie Carpenter. "I'm looking forward to getting him to camp to try him out at tackle and guard and see where he best fits in."
With one of the top O-lines in the CFL over the last decade, the Alouettes have long placed a heavy emphasis on having not just quality players, but also quality people protecting their quarterback.
"Just like the rest of our guys, Richard is an outstanding player, but more than that, he's a great young man with a good head on his shoulders," Carpenter said.
Yalowsky played four seasons with the Calgary Dinos, starting at offensive tackle and taking home several awards.
Yalowsky is excited to join the Als.
"They're a first-class organization and I can't wait to be a part of their team. They've had a lot of success and I know I'll have a great future there," Yalowsky said. "I was a bit surpised when I was chosen, but I know my coach had spoken with them, so I guess he gave me a good plug."
A one-time winner of the CIS' Canadian Lineman of the Year award, Yalowsky will join veteran All-Star-laden lineup of Bryan Chiu, Scott Flory, Uzooma Okeke, Paul Lambert, Luke Fritz, Dave Mudge and Paul Archer.
"We have had a great offensive line and I expect a great year again," Carpenter said. "Richard should be able to do whatever we need and give us the support we're looking for. This is a great pick for the future of this team."
