Mason and Whitecotton Released

Grand Rapids, MI - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Thursday signed center Bryan Richardson to a professional tryout and released left wing Wes Mason and center Dustin Whitecotton. Richardson, 28, played in six games with the Griffins earlier this season, registering one goal, a pair of assists and four penalty minutes. He tallied his lone goal in his first AHL contest on January 10, in Grand Rapids' 7-3 victory over the Chicago Wolves.

The Montreal native has appeared in a total of 53 games for the East Coast Hockey League's Mobile Mysticks and Baton Rouge Kingfish this year, totaling 21 goals and 33 assists. Richardson will join the Griffins in Manitoba for their game against the Moose tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.

Mason, 24, appeared in six games for Grand Rapids since joining the team on March 1, notching one goal and four penalty minutes. He scored a game-winning goal in just his second appearance in a Griffins uniform, a 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals on March 2.

The Windsor, Ontario, native returns to the ECHL's Augusta Lynx, where he has registered 18 goals and 21 assists in 53 games.

Whitecotton, 22, appeared in eight games with Grand Rapids since his February 23 signing, notching one goal and eight penalty minutes. He recorded his first AHL goal on February 24 in the Griffins' 9-1 win over the Utah Grizzlies.

The native of Cherryville, British Columbia, returns to the United Hockey League, where he paces the Missouri River Otters with 32 goals and 45 assists.
