RHP Mike Gardner Added to RiverDogs Roster

CHARLESTON, SC – The New York Yankees announced Saturday that LHP Saydel Beltran has been placed on the disabled list. Taking his place on the active roster is RHP Mike Gardner.

Gardner was transferred from extended spring training and recorded a save in his first appearance with the RiverDogs on Sunday. He pitched for current RiverDogs manager Bill Mosiello in low A Battle Creek last season, going 1-2 with a 3.40 ERA in 43 games out of the bullpen. Gardner was selected in the 13th round in 2003 out of Miami (OH) University. The native of Louisville, KY, began his professional career with short season A Staten Island in 2003, finishing 1-4 with a 1.93 ERA and five saves in 23 games.

Beltran is 2-0 with a save and has not allowed a run in 11 innings of work this season. The native of Santa Clara, Cuba, has struck out 14 and allowed only seven hits in those 11 innings. Left-handed hitters are 0-13 with seven strikeouts against the southpaw.

The RiverDogs open an eight-game homestand on Tuesday night against the Kannapolis Intimidators at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The gates open at 6 pm with the first pitch at 7:05. The homestand opens with another Two for Tuesday presented by 96 WAVE, Harris Teeter, Northwoods and Citadel Malls. It's also the Holy City Has Tattoos Night as the RiverDogs will distribute temporary tattoos at the gates and fans can register to win a free tattoo in Savannah, GA.
