
Captains offense explodes in series finale

(Eastlake, OH)--The Lake County Captains enjoyed a prolific offensive performance Monday night at Classic Park, as they set new team records for runs and hits in an impressive 18-7 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds.
The Captains (33-25) scored 18 runs on 22 hits, both team-records. The previous mark of 17 runs in a game came June 24th of last season at Delmarva, and the previous record of 21 hits occured last year at Hickory on April 8th.
The victory completed a four-game series sweep for the Captains, who racked up 41 runs in the series, also a team-record.
The win also allowed the Captains to pull to within three games of first-place Hagerstown with 12 games to play in the first-half. Lexington defeated Hagerstown 7-4 Monday. The Captains will begin a four-game series at Hagerstown on Tuesday.
Argenis Reyes went 5-6 for the Captains, including a home run leading off the first inning against Kevin Hart (3-3). He went on to collect four singles, before finally being retired in his final at-bat. Reyes, who extended his hitting streak to four games, and became just the second Captains player to get five hits in a game. Kevin Kouzmanoff was the other on July 3, 2004 against Kannapolis.
Brian Barton and Mike Butia also had big nights, with each registering four hits. Butian was 4-6 with four RBI, while Barton had two doubles and a triple, with four runs scored and three RBI. Marshall Szabo chipped in three hits and two RBI for the Captains.
Lefty Tony Sipp (3-1) worked the first 5 1/3 innings for the Captains, giving up just two hits. He allowed a solo homer to Arturo Rivas in the fourth. He walked back-to-back hitters before leaving in the sixth and both of those runners scored against reliever T.J. Burton.
The Captains have won 10 consecutive home games, and are now 21-9 at Classic Park this year.
The Captains will now embark on an eight-game road trip which begins in Hagerstown Tuesday evening at 7:05 (WELW AM 1330).
