
RHP Leyva to Triple-A Gwinnett, RHP Peterson to Mississippi

PEARL, MS - The Atlanta Braves have made the following roster moves affecting the M-Braves roster prior to tonight's 7:00 pm game against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Trustmark Park. RHP Elian Leyva has been promoted to Triple-A Gwinnett and RHP David Peterson has been transferred to Mississippi from Gwinnett.
Leyva, 29, is 2-0 with a 3.07 ERA (10 ER/29.1 IP) in 12 games, including one start for the M-Braves this season posting 31 strikeouts and seven walks. The Lleida, Spain native joins Gwinnett's roster for the third time this season and has no record, but a 1.08 ERA (1 ER/8.1 IP) in four relief appearances for the Stripers, eight strikeouts and one walk. Leyva made his first career start on May 27 vs. Jacksonville and retired the first 11 batters faced, giving up just two hits over four innings with no walks and seven strikeouts. Of his 12 outings, 10 have been longer than one inning.
The Cuban born Leyva was signed by the Braves as a non-drafted free agent on November 11, 2016.
Peterson, 28, has no record and a 5.95 ERA (13 ER/19.2 IP) in 14 relief appearances for the Stripers with seven walks and eight strikeouts. Peterson spent time on the Gwinnett disabled list from April 26-May 7 and temporary inactive list May 15-May 23. The Walnut Creek, CA native pitched for Mississippi in 34 games over parts of 2015 and 2016 going 4-3 with a 3.46 ERA (24 ER/41.2 IP), 34 strikeouts and 14 walks.
In 2017, Peterson set career highs in games (50), innings (67.2) and strikeouts (53) while going 2-4 with a 4.12 ERA (31 ER/67.2 IP) at Triple-A Gwinnett. He led all Braves farmhands in appearances, ranked tied for second with seven saves and ranked 10th with a 3.53 strikeout to walk ratio.
Peterson was selected by the Braves in the eighth round of the 2012 draft of the College of Charleston (SC).
The Mississippi Braves roster currently stands at 24 active players plus 5 on the DL.
