Springfield Cardinals News Release

Tulsa, OK - RHP Arturo Reyes no-hit the Tulsa Drillers through his first 6.2 innings, helping lead the Springfield Cardinals to the 8-0 shutout win in a rain-shortened seven-inning game at ONEOK Field on Sunday afternoon. Following the final out in the bottom of the seventh, the game entered a 33-minute rain delay before the umpires called it.

Reyes (W, 4-2) was fantastic through his 6.2 innings, no-hitting the Drillers (26-35) until a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh. After a two-out walk in the bottom of the first, Reyes rattled off a remarkable 18 consecutive outs, before 1B Lars Anderson snapped the streak with a two-out walk in the seventh. The next batter, C Kyle Farmer, lined a single to left field, ending the no-hit bid and the afternoon for Reyes. He finished with just the one hit and two walks, while tallying a season-high eight strikeouts. Reyes also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a single, a walk and a run.

The Cardinals (26-36) swung in front right away, striking for two runs in the top of the first inning against RHP Jeremy Kehrt (L, 4-5). With RF Jeremy Hazelbaker on at first base and one away, C Michael Ohlman pulled an RBI double to left field, bringing Hazelbaker home for the game's first run. Ohlman then raced around from second on an RBI single by 1B Jonathan Rodriguez, and the Cardinals held an early 1-0 lead.

Springfield doubled the advantage in the top of the third. LF Mike O'Neill and Hazelbaker set the table with a pair of no-out walks, putting two men on for Ohlman. The catcher struck again, ripping another RBI double to left field, plating O'Neill and moving Hazelbaker to third. Hazelbaker then darted home on an RBI groundout from CF Nick Martini, making it 4-0.

Reyes made sure the four-run lead remained intact with scoreless and hitless inning after inning, before the Cardinals blew the game open in the top of the seventh. Facing LHP Chris Reed, Springfield scored four runs in the inning on six walks, without registering a single hit. Reyes started the stanza with a walk, before Hazelbaker and Ohlman both worked free passes one out later to load the bases with one away. Rodriguez, Martini and 3B Patrick Wisdom then all worked consecutive RBI walks, forcing home the inning's first three runs. The final run of the frame came in on an RBI fielder's choice by 2B Bruce Caldwell, stretching it to an 8-0 advantage.

Reyes went back to work in the bottom of the seventh and exited with two on and two down. RHP Chris Thomas, though, closed the inning with a quick strikeout of 2B Brandon Dixon, wrapping up the bottom of the seventh. Before the top of the eighth began, the thunderstorm rolled in and sent the game into a rain delay. After 33 minutes, the umpires called the game and the Cardinals took the 8-0 win in a rain-shortened seven innings.
