San Antonio Missions News Release
Sparked by the return of starter Colin Rea, San Antonio snapped its three-game skid with a 4-1 win over Corpus Christi in front of a Saturday night crowd of 5,897 at Wolff Stadium.
Saturday's series opener got off to a slow start offensively as Rea and Corpus Christi's Brian Holmes matched perfect innings through two and a half.
In the bottom of the third, the Missions were able to get to Holmes (1-2), taking a 2-0 lead after getting two-out, RBI singles from Alberth Martinez and Trea Turner.
Rea, who was making his first start off the disabled list, struck out five over four perfect innings. The Cascade, IA native threw 32 of his 46 pitches for strikes.
Stephen Kohlscheen followed Rea with two perfect innings of his own. However, in the seventh, the Hooks broke up both the perfecto and shutout bids, trimming the Missions' lead to just 2-1 with Tyler White's RBI single off Kohlscheen (1-0).
San Antonio responded well in the bottom of the seventh, stretching its lead to 4-1 against reliever Ruben Alaniz on Duanel Jones' double to left and Martinez's infield single to third.
Relievers Michael Dimock and Tayron Guerrero (4th save) each tossed scoreless frames to push the Missions' season-best home win streak to six games.
San Antonio (27-33) resumes its four-game series against Corpus Christi (41-19) Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 PM. The first 500 kids 12 & under to enter Wolff Stadium will receive a free sticker fan pack courtesy of Kellogg's. Elliot Morris (2-4, 4.45) will get the ball for the Missions, while the Hooks counter with fellow righty Kyle Westwood (4-2, 4.06).
Notes: Before the game, to make room for Rea on the roster, right-hander Luis De La Cruz was released. Yeison Asencio (1-for-4) extended his hit streak to eight games, but saw the end of his seven-game multi-hit streak.Â
