Revs' Winning Road Trip Concludes with a Loss

August 30, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution closed a winning seven-game road trip with a loss on Sunday afternoon, falling 8-3 at Somerset in front of 4,755 fans at TD Bank Ballpark. The Revs finish their road trip with a 4-3 record, while settling for a split at Somerset, dropping the final two games. The Revs will head into their final off day of the regular season on Monday before opening a seven-game homestand on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. against the Camden Riversharks.

Somerset struck first in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run opposite field home run down the left field line by Michael Burgess. Seemingly a routine fly off the bat, the ball carried with the wind just over the left field fence, nestling a couple of feet inside the foul pole for a 2-0 Patriots lead. It snapped a streak of 12 consecutive games in which the Revs had scored first, and nine consecutive games in which the Patriots had seen opponents score first.

Somerset added a run in the second, taking advantage of a pair of York miscues. Ricky Claudio reached on an infield single, legging out a throw from pitcher Matt Neil who had fumbled his initial attempt to pick up the ball. Claudio advanced two bases on a wild pitch, and scored on a ground ball to second by Jonny Tucker to make it 3-0.

The Revs struck back with two in the third, pulling within one run. Jose Constanza (3-for-5) rapped a one-out single to left, and Wilson Valdez drilled an RBI triple over the head of right fielder Mike Wilson to get York on the board. With two outs, Valdez scored on an error on a sharp grounder by Brandon Boggs that went through the legs of third baseman Greg Hopkins, bringing York within 3-2.

The Patriots would extend the lead with five unanswered runs from the fourth through the seventh. Hopkins atoned for his miscue with a long solo homer down the left field line in the fourth. In the fifth, Robert Andino reached on a throwing error by Neil and scored on a two-out single up the middle by Burgess (3-for-4) who drove in three runs for the second consecutive game. Claudio started things again with a two-out single to right in the sixth, before stealing second and scoring on Tucker's triple to deep left-center. Tucker came home on a wild pitch, as did Nate Spears in the seventh inning after leading off with a double.

York put together one last threat in the eighth as Boggs drew a leadoff walk, Bryan Pounds (2-for-3) nailed a one-out double to left-center, and Yeicok Calderon (2-for-4) slashed an RBI single to right, but reliever Gus Schlosser finished his second inning of work with a double play, limiting the Revs to one run.

Will Oliver (4-1) earned the win for Somerset, allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits in five innings, working on short rest. It was his second win in as many starts against York.

Neil (2-8) suffered the loss, tagged with six runs (five earned) in 5.2 innings.

The Revs remain 3.5 games behind Lancaster for first place in the Freedom Division's second half with a record of 27-22.

Notes: The Revs conclude a stretch of 26 consecutive days with a game, having gone 15-10 on that stretch in addition to a suspended game still to be completed. York wraps a stretch of 15 road games in 18 contests, going 10-7 on that stretch in addition to the suspended game. The Revs went 9-5 in the 14 completed road games on that stretch. York will play 14 of 20 games in September at home, beginning Tuesday night. Constanza extended his hitting streak to seven games and scored for the seventh time in his last four games. York lefty Rommie Lewis (9-9, 3.96) will face Camden's Wes Torrez (5-7, 4.39) in Tuesday's opener at 6:30 p.m. It is FirstEnergy Safety Night, a WellSpan Sports Medicine Silver Sluggers Tuesday, and a Maple Donuts Night. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
