York Revolution News Release
Pitching ruled the day once again as the York Revolution earned their second straight victory, 3-1 over the Long Island Ducks on Saturday night in front of 5,287 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs will go for the series sweep on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
York took an early lead, scoring twice in the bottom of the first on an RBI double to left by Andres Perez and a sac fly by Chad Tracy.
Long Island answered back on a solo homer to right-center by Bill Hall leading off the top of the second, cutting the lead to 2-1, but that was all that starter Pedro Liriano allowed in five-plus innings of work. Liriano (6-4) struck out Kraig Binick and Lew Ford to leave the bases loaded that inning, and protected the early lead to earn his first win since July 31.
York added to the lead in the sixth inning when Perez led off with another double, his second of the night, and scored on a two-out RBI single to left by Michael Hernandez, providing the 3-1 lead.
Reliever Beau Vaughan retired all eight batters he faced totaling nine outs on just 23 pitches, logging three perfect innings in relief. Vaughan entered in a big spot with two runners on base and no outs in the sixth, and retired Ramon Castro on a double play before ending the inning with a groundout from Adam Bailey.
Michael Wuertz posted his fourth save with a scoreless ninth inning, securing the Revs' first set of back-to-back victories since August 14-15.
Ducks starter Pete Budkevics (0-2) took the loss, giving up two runs in four innings, both unearned.
Having allowed just one run in each of the first two wins in the series, the Revs have clinched a winning record head-to-head in the season series against the Ducks, currently leading 11-8, and will go for their third sweep of the season and first at home in Sunday's finale at 2 p.m., the final meeting between the two clubs of the 2013 season.
York 's Will Savage (9-10, 4.62) faces Ducks lefty Bill Murphy (3-14, 5.53) on Sunday afternoon. The first 1,500 fans will receive a Sovereign Bank Stadium Replica Giveaway presented by Turkey Hill. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
