Somerset Patriots News Release
Waldorf, MD - The Somerset Patriots (37-18, 83-42) shutout the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (21-35, 58-67) 6-0 Saturday night from Regency Furniture Stadium in front 7,619 fans. The Patriots have won five in a row while the Blue Crabs have lost six straight.
In the top of the second inning shortstop Angel Sanchez sliced a RBI single to give the Patriots an early 1-0 advantage.
Right fielder Cory Aldridge poked a two RBI single in the top of the third inning as Somerset expanded its lead to 3-0.
Somerset tacked on a run in the fifth frame as second baseman Yunesky Sanchez smacked a RBI single to increase the Patriots' lead to 4-0.
Third baseman Corey Smith pounded a two RBI double in the ninth inning to make the contest 6-0 which would be the final score.
Roy Merritt (3-2) earned the win as tossed a season-high seven innings while striking out a season-high eight batters while just surrendering three hits. Wade Korpi (3-7) suffered the loss as he gave up four runs and 11 hits in 5.2 innings of work.
