Revs Toss Combined Two-Hitter On Night Of Milestones In Victory At Long Island
July 21, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
Shawn Hill and five relievers combined on the Revs' first two-hitter in nearly two years as the York Revolution picked up a 5-1 victory over the Long Island Ducks on Tuesday night in front of 4,536 fans at Bethpage Ballpark. York evens the four-game series at one win apiece while improving to 5-7 in the second half. It marked the 250th road win and 300th victory all-time against a Liberty Division opponent in Revolution history.
Mikey Reynolds set the tone, providing the Revs with an immediate spark in the top of the first. After rapping a single to right-center on an 0-2 pitch to start the game, Reynolds took second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a ground ball. With two outs, Reynolds made a mad dash for the plate and scored on a straight steal of home for a 1-0 lead. The pitch eluded catcher Mike Blanke high and to the outside, but it appeared that Reynolds would have scored regardless in notching his 10th stolen base of the season.
The Revs hit for the cycle as a team in the third inning, scoring three times to build a 4-0 lead. Reynolds again ignited things with an infield single to lead off. Playing for one run, Wilson Valdez dropped down his club record 36th sacrifice bunt all-time with York and 16th of the season. Eric Patterson then nailed an RBI triple that short-hopped the fence in right-center, plating Reynolds for a 2-0 lead. Patterson battled to reach a full count after falling behind in the at-bat, and moved into a tie for eighth in Atlantic League history with his 27th triple all-time in a Revs uniform. Brandon Boggs was robbed of a hit on a diving play by first baseman Jon Griffin with the infield in for the second out, but Bryan Pounds launched a two-run homer to left, his fourth in seven games, capping the spurt. Yeicok Calderon added a deep double to the base of the center field fence for the Revs' third extra-base hit of the inning.
Hill ran into uncharacteristic control problems in the bottom of the third, but minimized the damage by not allowing a hit. Consecutive hit batters and a walk loaded the bases with one out in the inning, as Cody Puckett lofted a sacrifice fly to right, cutting the lead to 4-1. After a walk to hot-hitting Randy Ruiz reloaded the bases, Hill struck out Griffin looking to escape further damage.
Hill (2-7) earned the win, allowing just one hit and one run over five innings. His lone hit allowed came on a double to left by Blake Davis with two outs in the fifth. Hill struck out four, and overcame a season high-tying four walks and a franchise record-tying three hit batters.
York added an insurance run in the seventh inning to close the scoring. Andres Perez led off the inning with a triple to right-center before Salvador Paniagua was hit by a pitch and Reynolds walked to load the bases, ending the night of Ducks starter Bobby Blevins (1-2). Valdez greeted reliever Donnie Veal with a liner to center for a sacrifice fly, plating Perez to make it 5-1.
Out of the bullpen, Ty'Relle Harris tossed a 1-2-3 sixth inning. Ron Schreurs struck out a pair of batters in the seventh before giving way to Tony Pena, who came back from a 3-0 count to strike out Puckett looking and strand two runners. Stephen Penney was perfect in the eighth, and Josh Judy worked past a misplayed fly ball for a double by Blanke to lead off the ninth, finishing off the combined two-hitter.

Hill snapped a six-game losing streak spanning 10 starts, claiming his first victory since May 7 despite allowing three earned runs or fewer in eight of those 10 winless starts and two earned runs or fewer in seven of those outings... Pounds has homered in four straight wins and now has six extra-base hits and 12 RBI over his last eight games... Reynolds' three-hit game tied a season-high... York lefty Frank Gailey (1-2, 2.18) will face Long Island right-hander Billy Buckner (7-1, 4.88) on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m... Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 6:15 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
