July 21, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Bridgeport Bluefish News Release
(Waldorf, MD - July 21, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (9-3, 35-47) defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (6-6, 48-34) 5-2 at Regency Furniture Stadium on Tuesday night to take the first two games of the four scheduled in the series. The Bluefish remain the hottest team in the Atlantic League, having now won 11 of their last 14 games.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Kameron Loe (3-2) won his third consecutive game in as many starts since the All-Star Break, tossing eight innings, giving up just two runs on five hits, walking one and striking out six, while allowing one home run. Southern Maryland Starting Pitcher Brian Burres (3-6) was tagged with the loss, pitching seven and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs (four earned runs) on eight hits, walking one, striking out eight, and serving up one home run. Patrick Mincey did not allow a run in one inning of relief, striking out one, notching his 16th save and second in as many nights against the Blue Crabs. The Liberty Division All-Star is now eight for eight in save opportunities in the second half of the regular season.
The game was scoreless as this pitcher's duel moved to the top half of the sixth inning, and that was when Bridgeport was finally able to put up a crooked number on the scoreboard off Burres with a four spot, and each of the runs coming with two men out. With one away, Bryant Nelson singled to left field, and then advanced to second on a stolen base. Wilson Batista brought home Nelson with a two-out run scoring single for the game's first run. The rally continued as Andres Rodriguez extended the lead to 4-0 with a three-run home run, his third big fly of the season.
Southern Maryland got one run back in their half of the sixth inning off Loe to cut the deficit to 4-1 on an infield RBI single by Fred Lewis, plating Anthony Vega who drew a leadoff walk. The Bluefish would add an insurance run in the eighth off Burres to extend the lead to 5-1 as Jobduan Morales brought home Welington Dotel with an RBI single of his own. Dotel led off the inning with a base knock and would later steal second base, his 28th bag swiped in 2015, tops in the Atlantic League. Loe registered his third straight quality start, and gave the baseball to Mincey who continues to mow down the opposition, lowering his ERA to a miniscule 1.43. Morales led the way for Bridgeport with two hits in the victory, as they remained atop the second Half Liberty Division Standings.
The Bluefish return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday, July 24th when they welcome in their cross-sound rival Long Island Ducks for a three game weekend set as the 2015 Ferry Cup Series continues. Five-time World Series Champion Paul O'Neill will guest manage the team on what is guaranteed to be a very exciting start to the weekend in the Park City. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
