York Revolution News Release
David Harden was nearly perfect into the seventh as the York Revolution offense was quieted in a 2-1 loss at Somerset in front of 4,036 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening. The loss evens the series, setting up a rubber match scheduled for Thursday night.
Harden's only base runner allowed through the first 6.2 innings came on a bunt single by Ruddy Yan with two outs in the third. The Revs finally broke through as Andy Marte doubled to left with two outs in the seventh and scored on a Cody Johnson single to right, but that was the extent of the offense surrendered by Harden (7-1) who tied for the league lead in wins with the victory, and two Patriot relievers.
Somerset scored first on a two-out single by Eddy Martinez-Esteve (3-for-4) in the bottom of the fourth. It plated Cory Aldridge who had walked earlier in the inning, the only free pass issued by Revs starter Pedro Liriano (2-1) who allowed just one run in 5.1 innings, absorbing the tough luck loss.
Luis Montanez lined a home run to left in the bottom of the sixth off reliever Edward Paredes to extend Somerset's lead to 2-0.
Harden allowed just four hits in 7.2 innings, walking none and striking out six. Roy Merritt struck out Eric Patterson to end the eighth with a man on base, and Jon Hunton fired a scoreless ninth with a pair of strikeouts for his league-leading 16th save.
York 's bullpen kept things close in the seventh, as Julio DePaula struck out Corey Smith and Rommie Lewis fanned Aldridge to leave the bases loaded.
Notes: Eric Patterson (0-for-4) lost a 12-game hitting streak and Salvador Paniagua (0-for-3) had an 11-game hitting streak snapped. The Revs are now 3-3 against the Patriots this season, as four of those games have been decided by one run with another going extra innings. The Revs have now suffered 19 of 23 losses by three runs or fewer, including 15 one-run defeats. It marked the first time in 10 games that the Revs allowed the opponent to score first. York's Chris Cody (6-2, 3.12) faces Paul Phillips (4-1, 4.33) on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, YorkRevolution.com, and on the Shoutcast phone app (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
