York Revolution News Release

The Lancaster Barnstormers broke through in the mid and late innings, topping the York Revolution 6-2 in their series rubber match on Sunday evening at Santander Stadium. The Revs slip to 1-2 in the second half, and will look to rebound when they welcome the Sugar Land Skeeters to town for the first of a four-game series on Monday night.

Rommie Lewis got the start for the Revs on Sunday afternoon looking to bring the team the series win against the Barnstormers on Sunday Funday. Opposing Lewis was Lancaster starter Bryan Woodall, and for the first four innings both starters were locked in a classic pitchers' duel.

Lancaster broke through in the fifth inning on a Juan Apodaca fielder's choice, scoring the first run of the game for the Barnstormers. In the sixth, Lancaster outfielder Kent Matthes, making his Barnstormers debut, launched a solo shot over the Arch Nemesis to give the visiting team some breathing room with a 2-0 score.

It all unraveled for Lewis (5-7) and the Revs in the seventh, as the Barnstormers got four runs in the inning off of a flurry of base hits. Apodaca drove home the first run with a single, followed by a Yusuke Kajimoto RBI line drive base hit. Mark Mason went to his bullpen and summoned his closer Josh Judy to get some work, and was promptly greeted by Matthes, once again putting the exclamation point on an inning by launching a two-run double to left-center that James Simmons had trouble fielding off the wall, pushing the Lancaster lead to 6-0. Matthes picked up an RBI on the play with the second run scoring on the error.

Woodall (2-4) held the Revs at bay all evening, throwing six scoreless innings and striking out eight to earn the victory for Lancaster.

Nick Ferdinand was the lone bright spot offensively for the Revs, launching his seventh homer of the year, a two run bomb off of reliever Scott Patterson with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.

The Revs look to bounce back on Monday as the Skeeters come to town for a four game set at Santander Stadium. Frank Gailey (1-0, 0.00) gets the nod for the Revolution, while Matt Wright (4-2, 3.53) takes the hill for the Skeeters on Wrestling Night, highlighted by an appearance by Olympic gold medalist and NCAA wrestling champion Cael Sanderson. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.

Notes: Ferdinand's home run was his fourth to clear the Arch Nemesis in left field and marked the 200th by a Revs batter all-time to clear the tallest wall in professional baseball. The War of the Roses series is now even at 9-9 through 18 of the season's 28 meetings. Lewis suffered his first loss against the Barnstormers this season, entering Sunday's outing 3-0 with a 1.07 ERA in 4 starts head-to-head. Ty'Relle Harris made his York debut with a 1-2-3 eighth inning. Beau Vaughan tossed a scoreless ninth and has allowed just two runs in 8.2 innings since returning from injury.
