SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters surrendered four run in the top of the ninth inning to drop their fifth-straight game to Southern Maryland, 4-3, in front of 4,293 fans at Constellation Field in the final game of the homestand. The loss drops Sugar Land to 37-37 overall and 1-3 in the second half.

The Skeeters struck first in the bottom of the second, claiming their first lead of the series. Travis Scott belted a double into the left to open up the frame before tagging up and moving to third on a fly ball to right from Chris Wallace. Johan Limonta smoked a single through the middle of the drawn in infield, allowing Scott to cross the plate and break the scoring seal, 1-0.

Roy Merritt turned in a dominant outing, recording his fifth-straight quality start after leaving with a 1-0 lead in the seventh. The southpaw scattered four hits and two walks with a pair of strikeouts, while retiring 10-batters in a row from the second inning to the fifth inning.

Sugar Land added a pair of insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a bases-loaded error. Wallace doubled to straightaway center with one out and Limonta was issued an intentional walk. Patrick Palmeiro pulled a ball through the left-side of the infield to load the bases. Renny Osuna hit a slow roller off the end of the bat, but first baseman Zach Wilson was unable to field the ball cleanly, allowing a run to score. Amadeo Zazueta lifted a sacrifice fly to center bringing in Limonta and staking the Skeeters a 3-0 lead.

The Skeeters pitching staff kept the Blue Crabs at bay for the majority of the game, but surrendered four runs in the top of the ninth to relinquish the lead. John Lujan surrendered four-straight hits after coming in for relief, leaving runners on the corners. Daryle Ward singled through the right-side and Gustavo Molina hit a bloop single into left before a Jake Opitz double down the left field line scored a run and moved the tying run to second. Jovan Rosa sprayed a ball to right, scoring one and chasing Lujan from the game. With Andrew Johnston on the mound, Jamar Walton singled off Johnston's glove, bringing the tying run home. Casey Frawley moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Following an intentional walk, Casey Stevenson lifted a sacrifice fly to left to break the tie and give the Blue Crabs their first lead of the night with two outs in the ninth.

Osuna opened the bottom of the ninth with a single, but the Skeeters were unable to string consecutive hits together, falling 4-3.
