York Revolution News Release
Alain Quijano tossed eight spectacular innings as the York Revolution locked up a first half Freedom Division title with a 2-0 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers in front of 5,936 fans at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Saturday evening. The Revs clinch the fifth postseason berth in franchise history and first since 2012, while winning a first half title for the second time in club history. The Revs (41-28) will wrap up the first half schedule on Sunday afternoon in Lancaster at 1 p.m.
Quijano (7-4) allowed just three hits and walked none while striking out five in a gem of a performance. The lefty needed just 88 pitches, 66 of which were strikes, keeping the Barnstormers off balance all night.
Rommie Lewis nailed down a hair-raising 17th save in the ninth. Lewis was greeted with a leadoff double by Ben Francisco, and a double to the fence in right field by Cole Garner putting runners at second and third with nobody out. The Revs got a huge play from shortstop Wilson Valdez who threw home to nail Francisco on a ground ball to short by Gabe Jacobo for the first out. Andrew Clark then hit into a fielder's choice for the second out before Lewis struck out Brock Kjeldgaard swinging to set off the celebration in the middle of the field.
York scored its runs as Chad Tracy ripped a two-out RBI single to left in the top of the first, and in the second when Justin Greene legged out an infield single with two outs, allowing a run to score to make it 2-0. The Revs rapped five hits in the first two innings, but only two more the rest of the game, as Lancaster pitchers faced the minimum from the third inning on.
York's Corey Thurman (3-1, 3.76) will face Lancaster's Chris Schwinden (7-1, 2.76) on Sunday afternoon. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile apps beginning at 12:40 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Daniel Kurish on the call.
