Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, NY) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 6-1 on Saturday night at Bethpage Ballpark in the middle game of a three-game series.

Ducks starter Rob Whitenack and Riversharks starter Greg Miller traded zeroes over the first six innings of the game. Camden finally broke through in the top of the seventh when Carlos Hughes hit a solo home run to right field.

Long Island responded right back in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run triple to right by Dan Lyons. Four more runs came home in the eighth to increase the lead to five. Two-out, two-run singles by Jan Vazquez and Fehlandt Lentini did the damage.

Whitenack did not factor into the decision but threw six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and four walks while striking out two. Mitch Talbot (1-0) got the win despite allowing a run in one inning of relief. Miller (0-5) took the loss, yielding two runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts in six and one-third innings.

Lyons and Lew Ford led the Flock with two hits apiece, with Lyons reaching base safely in each of his four plate appearances.

The Ducks and Riversharks wrap up their three-game set on Sunday evening. First pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 4:05. Peppa Pig, of the Nick Jr. TV show "Peppa Pig", makes her return to Central Islip. She will be available for autographs and pictures with fans before and throughout the game. In addition, the first 1,500 fans through the gates will take home Yellow and Navy Baseballs, courtesy of Yellow Dog Lawn Care.

It's also a Sunday Family Funday at the Duck Pond! Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks. After the game, kids and kids at heart can take part in Kids Run the Bases, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. The Ducks will also be hosting a food drive in conjunction with Long Island Cares and the Harry Chapin Food Bank. Fans are asked to donate non-perishable food items by dropping them off in the collection boxes located on the plaza outside the ballpark. Right-hander Shaun Garceau gets the start for the Ducks against Camden righty and former Duck Nick DeBarr.
