York Revolution News Release
(York, Pa.) - Joel Guzman cracked a towering home run and Kelvin De La Cruz tossed five solid innings as the York Revolution won a rain-shortened seven-inning game 4-1 over the Bluefish on Monday night at PeoplesBank Park. The Revs will go for two in a row against Bridgeport on Tuesday night.
The Revs (6-6) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second. Telvin Nash and Joel Guzman led off with hard-hit singles, then after a foul out James Simmons beat out an infield hit to load the bases. A shallow fly ball failed to get the runner home, but Michael Rockett laced a single to right center, scoring a pair to make it 2-0.
The Bluefish (5-6) got one back in the third when Luis Nunez and Luiz Hernandez managed singles off De La Cruz. Wilkin Ramirez ruined the shutout with a run-scoring hit to make it 2-1.
Bridgeport tried to start a rally in the fourth when Luis Rodriguez reached on an error, but Josh Vitters bounced one to Josh Wilson at short to start a 6-4-3 double play and end the threat.
Guzman greeted Bluefish starter Mike Antonini in the fourth with a powerful blast over the Arch Nemesis for his second home run of the season. Bryan Pounds followed with a walk and eventually scored on a sac fly by Salvidor Paniagua to give the game its final margin.
After De La Cruz got through the fifth unscathed, the rains came for the first time, delaying the game 50 minutes. Tony Pena relieved De La Cruz upon resumption and finished off a two-inning makeshift save before the skies opened up for good.
De La Cruz (2-1) more than earned the win with five innings of one-run, five-hit ball, walking none and striking out one. Antonini (1-2) was saddled with the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in four frames.
Guzman continued his torrid homestand by going 2-for-3 with his homer, two runs, and one driven in. Simmons also went 2-for-3 for the Revs.
Vitters paced the Bluefish attack with a single and a double.
Notes: At one hour and 43 minutes, the game went six long of the shortest game in Revolution history. York lost a 3-0 six-inning decision against Newark in 1:37 on June 17, 2009. Joel Guzman is now 10-for-19 with two home runs, a double, six RBIs, and seven runs scored through the first five of an eight-game homestand. The Revs will send Mike McClendon to the hill on Tuesday night to counter Bridgeport's R.J. Hively. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:10 p.m. with Darrell Henry and Will DeBoer on the call. Tuesday's game features the first edition of Baseball Bingo presented by Colonial Manor and The Brunswick at Longstown, as well as Silver Slugger Day presented by WellSpan Sports Medicine. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
