Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(York, PA) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (5-6) were defeated the York Revolution (6-6) 4-1 at PeoplesBank Park in the opener of a four game series on Monday evening in a rain shortened game that lasted only seven innings and included two rain delays. The first rain delay was for fifty minutes after four and a half innings and the second one lasted thirty minutes before the umpires ruled that the seven innings of play was enough with no end in sight of the downpours and hailstorm that were taking place.

Bridgeport Starting Pitcher Mike Antonini (1-2) was tagged with the loss after tossing the first four innings, giving up four runs on six hits, walking one and surrendering a home run. York Starting Pitcher Kelvin De La Cruz (2-1) picked up the win, allowing one run on five hits while striking out one in five innings of work. Tony Pena threw two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out four to record his first save of the season.

York took a 2-0 lead off Antonini in the home half of the second inning on a two out, two run single by the number nine hitter Michael Rockett, plating Telvin Nash and Joel Guzman who opened up the frame with back to back base knocks of their own. Bridgeport would cut the deficit to 2-1 in the next half inning off De La Cruz on an RBI single by Wilkin Ramirez, scoring Luis Nunez as the Bluefish quickly got back to within just a single run. The Revolution added to their lead in the top half of the fourth inning with two more runs as the home team enjoyed their largest advantage of the night at 4-1. Joel Guzman led off with a solo home run over the giant thirty plus foot wall in left field against Antonini, and Slavador Paniagua's sacrifice allowed Bryan Pounds to cross the plate for the three run cushion that York would never relinquish in the seven inning victory that Mother Nature would not allow to continue any further. Josh Vitters and Luis Nunez led the way for Bridgeport with a pair of hits each.

Bridgeport returns home following their brief four game road trip on Friday, May 6th when they welcome in their cross sound rivals the Long Island Ducks to the Ballpark at Harbor yard to kick of the 2016 edition of the Ferry Cup Series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 P.M. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a 2016 Bridgeport Bluefish team photo, presented by OSG.
