York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution offense stole the show in a wild 13-10 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers in front of 5,478 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Sunday evening. The Revs, winners of the final two games to claim a series victory, have now won five of their last six overall, and pull back within 5.0 games of Lancaster in the Freedom Division standings with 14 games to play in the season's first half. York will embark on a week-long road swing, beginning Monday night at Bridgeport, before another get-together with the Barnstormers next weekend in Lancaster.
For the second straight game, Lancaster's Ryan Harvey connected on a second-inning two-run homer providing the visitors with a 2-0 lead.
York had a big answer, scoring five times with two outs in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good. Danny Gonzalez rapped a two-run double down the third base line to tie the score, his third extra-base hit in the last two games, before Brandon Haveman lined a three-run homer onto the picnic tents in right field, giving the Revs a 5-2 lead. Haveman increased his RBI total to 18 for the season since signing with the Revs, 15 of which have come with two outs, while also extending his hitting streak to eight consecutive games.
Jaime Pedroza launched a two-run homer to right-center in the third, bringing the Barnstormers back within a run at 5-4, but York again had the answer, scoring the next five runs to take a 10-4 lead after four.
In the third, it was a two-run double to right from Liubiemithz Rodriguez that re-extended the lead, and in the fourth, it was a two-run single to center from Travis Scott, followed by a throwing error allowing another run to come home. Each of York's 10 runs over the first four innings scored with two outs.
The Barnstormers chased Revs starter Corey Thurman in the fifth, one out shy of qualifying for his club record-tying seventh straight victory, scoring four times to pull close once again at 10-8. Fehlandt Lentini drove in two on a triple to deep center, and scored on a groundout by Emerson Frostad. Kody Kirkland later drove home one more on a triple to right-center, cutting the lead to just two.
Reliever James Houser (2-0) recorded the final out of the fifth, as well as the first two outs in the sixth to earn the win in relief.
The Revs ballooned the lead back to five runs at 13-8, scoring three times in the sixth on a leadoff homer to left from Ramon Castro, and a two-run homer to left by Andres Perez.
Lancaster scored twice in the ninth on a Lentini groundout and a wild pitch by closer R.J. Rodriguez, but it was of little consequence as the Revs claimed the wild win.
Each of the bottom four batters in the Revs' lineup drove in two runs, while the fifth through seventh spots in the lineup combined to go 8-for-12 with nine runs scored. Perez scored four times, a single-game high for a York batter this season, going 3-for-4 with his two-run homer. Catcher Travis Scott pounded a season-high three hits, all crucial knocks in York rallies, and drove in a pair.
Both teams enjoyed four separate multi-run innings. The 10 runs allowed marked the most in a victory by the Revs this season.
The Revs improved to 29-27 with the win, going two games over .500 for the first time this year.
Lancaster starter J.D. Durbin (3-5) took the loss, charged with nine of York's runs on eight hits in 3.2 innings.
Notes: Reliever Ricardo Gomez pitched a scoreless seventh for York, his seventh straight scoreless appearance, a Revs' season-best. Lancaster manager Butch Hobson and leadoff hitter Adam Godwin were ejected in the top of the sixth inning, arguing an out call at first base. The Revs improve to 4-2 against Lancaster in this season's "War of the Roses" series, winning two of three games in each of the first two series. The win finished a 5-2 homestand for the Revs. The Revs have now won nine of their last 13 series, and seven of the last nine. York's Chris Waters (1-0, 0.00) will face Bridgeport's Jonah Bayliss (1-3, 3.68) in Monday's opener at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350 and Shoutcast.com (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
