Lancaster Stormers News Release
On an evening when the air currents were favorable for the hitters, the York Revolution took full advantage, clubbing three homers and four doubles on the way to a 13-10 victory over the Lancaster Barnstormers in the rubber game of a three-game series at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Sunday.
It was the first series loss for Lancaster in June and cut the division lead over the Revolution back to five games with 14 left to play.
Lancaster delivered the first blow on a towering two-run homer to left by Ryan Harvey, his third of the week, in the top of the second, but the lead got away quickly.
York loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the second on a walk to Michael Hernandez, single to center by Andres Perez and a smash by Travis Scott that eluded Brad Boyer to his right for a second base hit off J.D. Durbin (3-5). The right-hander got Liu Rodriguez on a pop up to short for the second out, but Danny Gonzalez burned his former ballclub again with a double slapped inside the third base bag to tie the game. Brandon Haveman followed with a three-run homer to right for a 5-2 lead.
The Revs were never headed.
Jaime Pedroza did deliver a two-run homer off Corey Thurman in the top of the third to cut the lead to one, but the Revs put together another two-out rally in the bottom half. Andres Perez dropped a single into short center as the ball trickled loose from Adam Godwin on a diving try. Scott followed with a long double to center on an 0-2 pitch, and Liu Rodriguez brought both home with a double to right that Fehlandt Lentini barely missed with a dive.
Durbin was lifted with two on and two outs in the fourth. Horacio Ramirez uncorked a wild pitch to move the runners ahead, and the Barnstormers opted to walk Andres Perez and face Scott. The lefty-hitting catcher singled through Ramirez' legs, driving in two more for a 9-4 lead. Another run crossed on the inning's second wild pitch and a throwing error.
Still, Lancaster was able to charge back in the fifth and knock Thurman out of the game. Godwin and Blake Gailen started the rally with singles and scored on a triple to dead center by Lentini, who then scored on a ground ball. Brad Boyer walked, and Kody Kirkland brought him home with a triple to the right center gap as the lead narrowed to two.
With the game still in reach at 10-8, Godwin opened the sixth with a bouncer past the mound. Rodriguez charged in and made a sidearm throw. First base umpire Eric Diaz ruled Godwin out, prompting an argument, first from the center fielder, then from manager Butch Hobson.
The latter was ejected, went over to first base, ripped it from its moorings and threw it in the trash can in the York dugout. Calm seemed to be restored until Godwin was given the thumb. He and Hobson returned to first base, where, again, Hobson grabbed the replaced bag and fired it down the York dugout steps.
Lancaster never scored in the inning, despite a two-out double by Gailen, and York put the game away with a pair of towering homers to left in the bottom of the inning.
The Barnstormers head to Southern Maryland to open a three-game series on Monday evening with Dwayne Pollok (4-0) to square off against right-hander Deinys Suarez. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM; WPDC, 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 6:45.
