Bridgeport Suffers Loss to Somerset

(Bridgeport, CT - June 24, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (24-32) suffered an 11-4 setback at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard against the Somerset Patriots (27-29) on Sunday. Bridgeport failed to sweep Somerset and the Bluefish are still one win shy of 1,000 in franchise history after having a two-game winning streak snapped.

Somerset sent fourteen batters to the plate in scoring eight runs in the fifth. The road squad picked up four hits and five walks while being hit by a pitch twice. This came after the Patriots led 3-1 entering the inning. Only one of the hits left the infield and there were no extra-base hits in the rally.

Bridgeport's Norberto Susini picked up his first career Bluefish hit on a double to rightcenter in the third frame. The second baseman reached base three times with two hits and three runs scored on the day while Eddie Rogers collected three hits and drove in a run for the home team. Brock Peterson got on base twice and drove in two for the Bluefish. Norm Hutchins had his first hit with Bridgeport since 2006. Prentice Redman served two singles and got on base three times for the Bluefish..

Freddy Sandoval hit his second homer of the year to right in the second to give Somerset a one-run lead. He finished with two hits, three runs scored and two RBI while reaching four times. Joe Holden reached base four times and drove in two while scoring twice. Adam Donahie picked up four base hits on the day for the winning side. Eight of the nine starters picked up an RBI.

Bluefish starter Raymar Diaz (1-7) took the loss as the righthanded starter gave up five runs, seven hits, and four walks while fanning two in four innings of work. A tandem of six pitchers completed the rest of the game with Chris Hayes making his Bluefish debut as he tossed a scoreless eighth. The combination of hurlers surrendered six runs on six hits and five walks while fanning two.

Somerset starter, Paul Phillips (8-2) picked up the victory as the righthander worked six-and-two-thirds innings and allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks while fanning four. Three Patriots relievers combined for the final two-and-a-third frames. Bridgeport produced no runs on three hits and three walks while striking out once against the Somerset bullpen.

The Bluefish start a three-game series at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard against the York Revolution. First pitch on Monday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The gates open one hour before first pitch. Bridgeport will send righthanded starter, Jonah Bayliss (1-3, 3.68 ERA), to the hill against southpaw Chris Waters (1-0, 0.00 ERA).
