Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters (24-32) lost game three to the Camden Riversharks (26-29) by the final score of 5-1 in front of 6,785 fans Sunday evening at Constellation Field. The combined attendance of 21,931 fans over the three-day weekend resulted highest attendance record Skeeters baseball this season.
Jason Lane started for the second time this season on the mound for the Skeeters in game three against the Riversharks and had his longest outing of the season at 5.2 IP before he was removed.
Camden managed to score first for the third night in a row, and it started early in the first for the second time in the series. Riversharks center fielder Chris Walker led off with a single on the early start time of 6:05 p.m. During the at-bat of Lloyd Turner, he stole second to get in scoring position. After Brian Burgamy walked on a full count and Pedro Feliz singled to load the bases, designated-hitter Raul Padron stepped in with a chance for runs. On a 0-1 pitch, Padron lined a fastball into center scoring Walker from third and Burgamy from second to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Sean Jarrett started his second consecutive game against the Skeeters having pitched his last outing in Camden. The righty threw five scoreless innings for the Riversharks retiring 15 of 19 batters allowing just one hit before he gave up his first run of the game. In the bottom of the sixth, two-time Atlantic League All-Star Steve Moss led the inning off with a home run (1) into left-center field. The blast cut the lead in half, 2-1.
Jarrett was relieved after six full innings in line for the win after giving up just one run on two hits while striking out three. It got hairy in the eighth for Sugar Land when starter turned reliever Derrick Gordon came in to pitch. After working the seventh, Gordon gave up three runs on a bases loaded two-RBI single from Lloyd Turner that pushed the lead up to three, 4-1. In the next at-bat, Burgamy brought around his league tying 42nd RBI on a single to left to cap the scoring at 5-1.
Sugar Land had a shot to comeback in the bottom of the eighth, but Matt Hagen grounded into a 1-2-3 double play with the bases loaded to end the inning. Riversharks John Lujan came in to pitch the ninth inning in a non-save situation, but still retired the side after facing just four batters giving Camden a game three win, 5-1.
