Revs Kept at Arm's Length as Comeback Bid Is Denied

August 29, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution twice clawed within one run but could not erase an early deficit, falling 6-4 at Somerset on Saturday night in front of 8,175 fans at TD Bank Ballpark, the Patriots' largest home crowd of the season. York's four-game winning streak is snapped, as the Revs slip to 3.5 games behind Lancaster in the Freedom Division's second half race. York will wrap its seven-game road trip on Sunday, before returning home to begin a seven-game homestand on Tuesday night.

The Revs nearly opened the scoring in the top of the second, but with two runners in scoring position, Mikey Reynolds was robbed as Jonny Tucker made a diving catch on his hard liner in center to end the inning.

York did grab the game's first run an inning later, as Jose Constanza raced home on a pickoff throw to first, stealing home for a 1-0 lead.

Revs starter Logan Williamson breezed through the first two innings and retired his first eight batters overall, but ran into two-out trouble in the third as the Patriots did the bulk of their damage. Ricky Claudio kept the inning alive, rolling a single up the middle. After a walk to Robert Andino, Aharon Eggleston blooped an RBI single to shallow left, tying the game at 1-1. Thomas Neal followed with a walk to load the bases, and cleanup hitter Michael Burgess slugged the inning's big hit, a three-run single off the right-center fence. Burgess, admiring his deep drive, only picked up one base on the hit, but put Somerset in front 4-1.

The Revs threatened as Andres Perez led off the fourth with a double to left-center, his second of the game, taking over the league lead with 28 doubles on the season, but Somerset starter Matt Zielinski retired the next three.

York rallied with two outs in the fifth as Wilson Valdez bunted for a hit, Eric Patterson (2-for-4) singled to right, and Brandon Boggs walked. Perez then battled in a 12-pitch at-bat, but ultimately flied to center, leaving the bases loaded.

The Revs immediately put pressure on Zielinski again in the sixth as Bryan Pounds worked a leadoff walk and Yeicok Calderon doubled down the right field line. With one out, Luis De La Cruz punched an RBI grounder to second, and Constanza rapped a two-out RBI single up the middle, bringing York within 4-3.

Somerset would answer in their half of the sixth as Burgess and Adam Donachie led off with back-to-back doubles, increasing the lead to 5-3.

Perez took sole possession of the league lead in RBI with his 69th on a sac fly to left in the seventh, again pulling York within one run at 5-4.

Somerset responded once again, however, as Claudio led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk, ending the night of Williamson (7-11). With one out, Eggleston struck an RBI double to left-center, giving an insurance run back to the Patriots. Somerset answered with a run in all three innings in which York scored in Saturday's contest.

Zielinski (7-2) earned the win, allowing three runs over 5.2 innings. The Revs were held scoreless over the final two innings as lefty Buddy Boshers handled the eighth and Andrew Carignan picked up his third save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
