Ducks Score in Bunches to Defeat Southern Maryland

(Waldorf, MD) ---Coming an exciting win, Southern Maryland came out flat, as Long Island scored in bunches to take home the 10-4 victory at Regency Furniture Stadium.

In the top of the third Long Island scored four runs. With two outs, Fehlandt Lentini struck out swinging, but reached base on a dropped third strike. The next hitter, Delta Cleary Jr. singled, followed by a Dan Lyons walk to load the bases. The next hitter Randy Ruiz ripped a line drive single to left that scored Lentini, and Cleary Jr. to make it 2-0. Mike Blanke walked, and the next man up, Cody Puckett ripped a single to left field to score Lyons to make it 3-0, and the next hitter Anthony Vega walked with the bases loaded to score Randy Ruiz to make it 4-0. In total, Long Island sent 10 men to the plate.

The top of the fifth mirrored the top of the third, as Long Island scored four more runs. Mike Blanke started the rally with a bullet single to left field, followed by a Cody Puckett walk, and wild pitch to put runners at first and second. Anthony Vega then ripped a groud ball single to right to load the bases once again for Steve McQuail who was hit on the forearm by a pitch to make it 5-0. Two batter later, Fehlandt Lentini reached base on an infield single to score Cody Puckett thus ending the night of Shaun Garceau who went 4.2 innings, allowing eight runs on six hits. Sergio Perez was summoned out of the bullpen, and Delta Cleary Jr. wasted no time getting to Perez as Delta drove a single to right to score both Vega and McQuail to make it 8-0 in favor of Long Island.

Southern Maryland attempted to comeback in the bottom of the eighth off RHP Bobby Blevins. With two runners on base, Craig Maddox drove a three run shot over the wall in left to make it 8-3. Long Island would counter with two more insurance runs off RHP Chris Bodishbaugh in the ninth on a two run single by Fehlandt Lentini to bring the score to 10-3. Southern Maryland added one more run in the bottom of the ninth, but the door was shut by LHP Donnie Veal to give the Ducks the 10-4 victory.

Long Island out-hit Southern Maryland 11-10, led by Fehlandt Lentini who drove in three runs, while Delta Cleary Jr., and Randy Ruiz both drove in two runs. RHP Bobby Blevins picked up the win on the hill, going eight innings, allowing three runs, on eight hits, and striking out three.

The finale of the series will take place tomorrow at 2:05 P.M. RHP Bruce Kern (7-4, 3.36) will start for Long Island, while RHP Brian Grening (3-8, 4.62) will take the bump for the Blue Crabs.
