Sugar Land Space Cowboys News Release
SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters snapped a four-game losing streak as Travis Scott continued his offensive surge to help the team past the Camden Riversharks, 5-4. The win moves the Skeeters to 21-28 in the second half and 57-62 overall.
Scott moved into sole possession of first place in the all-time Skeeters record book with his 30th-career home run in the Blue and Gold. He homered in back-to-back games for the first-time this season to move past teammate Delwyn Young on the all-time list.
For the third-straight night, Camden opened the bottom of the first with a run to claim an early lead. Paddy Matera and Brandon Chaves logged back-to-back one out doubles to give the Riversharks an early 1-0 lead on Gallagher.
Scott continued his power surge in the top of the third. The catcher/first baseman took over sole possession of first place in the Skeeters all-time home run record book with his 30th-long ball in a Sugar Land uniform. His solo blast tied the game at one and was his fourth dinger in his last 17 games.
The Skeeters took their first lead of the night in the top of the fifth. Renny Osuna drew a leadoff walk to open the inning and advanced to second on a groundout from Amadeo Zazueta. Jeff Dominguez singled home Zazueta, but was thrown out at the plate attempting to expand the lead even more.
Sugar Land expanded on its lead in the top of the seventh, but limited the damage to just one after a miscue on the base path. Osuna singled to start the inning and stole second with two outs to move into scoring position. After a walk to Scott, Delwyn Young drove in Osuna to move the score to 3-1, but Scott was tagged out between second and third to end the frame.
After putting up one run in the third, fifth and seventh innings, the Skeeters put up a crooked number in the top of the eighth. Johan Limonta blasted a one-out double before Patrick Palmeiro launched a ball into orbit for a two-run home run. The long ball was his second in his last six games to move the score to 5-1.
Camden trimmed the gap in the bottom of the inning against Andrew Johnston. Matera continued his hot spell against the Skeeters with a single to start the inning and a one-out double from Carlos Guzman narrowed the score to three. Daniel Rockett logged an RBI single to chase Johnston. Evan Crawford reached on a key error that allowed Rockett to score from third and narrow the lead to 5-4.
Derrick Loop worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to record his 15th-save of the season and secure the 5-4 victory, snapping a three-game losing streak.
