York Revolution News Release

(Bridgeport, Ct.) - The York Revolution claimed a fourth consecutive victory with an 8-6 win over the Bridgeport Bluefish on Wednesday night at Harbor Yard, increasing their first place lead in the Freedom Division to three full games over the Sugar Land Skeeters. York (25-15) has won eight of its last nine overall, claiming a third consecutive series win, and will go for the sweep on Thursday night before returning home to kick off a six-game homestand on Friday.

Down 1-0 and silent offensively through three innings, the Revs erupted in the middle frames. Bridgeport knuckleballer Dan Johnson struck out six through three innings and had not allowed a hit, but that all changed with one out in the fourth as Joel Guzman ripped a double down the third base line, extending his hitting streak to nine games. Isaias Tejeda followed with a single to right, and Guzman came home as right fielder Luis Domoromo's throw bounced behind home plate, tying the game at 1-1. With two outs, Andres Perez cranked a two-run homer to deep left, his fifth of the year, giving York a 3-1 lead.

The Revs exploded for four more in the fifth. Charley Thurber and James Simmons drew walks, before Alfredo Marte lined an RBI single to deep left, chasing Johnson (0-2). Michael Rockett greeted reliever D.J. Mitchell with a sacrifice bunt, advancing both Simmons and Marte who would promptly score on a Guzman two-run single up the middle. Perez (3-for-4, three RBI) added an RBI single to center with two outs, as the lead ballooned to 7-1.

York starter Tony Pena (4-0) matched his season-high with five innings, giving up just two runs on four hits for the win. The righty overcame an uncharacteristic four walks by leaving the bases loaded in both the third and fifth innings, allowing only single runs each time.

Bridgeport scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third on a ground rule double down the right field line by Endy Chavez, while Welington Dotel brought home a run on a sac fly in the fifth, but Pena limited the damage.

Rockett added to the York offense with an RBI single up the middle with two outs in the sixth, making the lead 8-2.

York righty Ty'Relle Harris allowed just one run in three innings of relief, surrendering an RBI single to Luis Nunez in the eighth.

With an 8-3 lead, the Revs ran into trouble in the bottom of the ninth. Julio DePaula issued three walks around an RBI triple by Dotel, ultimately exiting the game after a wild pitch with apparent discomfort. With the lead cut to 8-5, Mariel Checo entered with a 1-0 count on Jonathan Galvez, and promptly struck out the Bluefish sixth hitter on three pitches. Anthony Giansanti came through with an RBI single to left, however, and stole second to put the tying two runners in scoring position with the lead dwindled to 8-6. Checo came back to retire Nunez on a pop up to third, before setting down Connor David on a line out to left field to preserve the nail-biting victory.

Notes: Perez now has 57 home runs in a Revolution uniform, two shy of tying Chris Nowak's franchise record of 59. Perez' three-RBI game ties a season-best for the third time. Checo's save is his first with York and fifth of his career; his other four occurred in 2011 with the GCL Yankees. Guzman (2-for-5, two RBI) retakes a share of the league's RBI lead with 28. Pena is one win shy of tying a club record for longest individual winning streak to start a season; Lorenzo Barcelo began his 2011 season with a 5-0 mark. York owns the league's best record, improving to a season-high 10 games over .500. With 25 victories, the Revs have exceeded last year's first half total. The 25-15 record is the franchise's best 40-game start, two games ahead of the 2010 and 2014 clubs. York improves to 6-0 against the Bluefish this season, and 100-76 all-time, their most wins vs. any opponent. York lefty Kelvin De La Cruz (3-4, 4.45) starts Thursday's series finale, opposite Bluefish right-hander Jonathan Albaladejo (2-2, 6.38) at 7:12 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:50 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
