Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, CT) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (13-26) were defeated by the York Revolution (25-15) 8-6 Wednesday night at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The loss marks the second straight for the 'Fish, and gives York a 6-0 lead in the season series. The Revolution pick up their fourth straight win, and have now won eight of their last ten games, en route to their best start through 40 games in team history.

Bridgeport's Dan Johnson (0-2) suffered his second loss of the season, pitching four innings, allowing six runs on four hits, walking two and striking out a season-high six batters. York's Tony Pena (4-0) notched his fourth win of the season allowing two runs on four hits in five innings of work, striking out one and surrendering four free passes. Mariel Checo picked up his first save of 2016 with a scoreless ninth inning of work, striking out one.

Bridgeport got things started offensively in the bottom of the third, sending seven batters to the plate in taking a 1-0 lead. Endy Chavez laced a ground rule double to right field that allowed Connor David to cross home plate with the game's first run. The Revs responded in the next half inning, as Andres Perez launched his fifth big fly of the season to left field, giving York a 3-1 cushion. The visitors would pick up four insurance runs in the top of the fifth, batting around to take a 7-1 lead. Alfredo Marte, Joel Guzman, and Perez all picked up RBI's in the effort, which saw Guzman hit his second double of the contest. Bridgeport would load the bases in the bottom of the frame, but only managed a run out of the rally as a Welington Dotel sacrifice fly would score David for the second time on the evening.

The offensive effort kept up for the Revolution in the top of the sixth inning, as an RBI single by Michael Rockett extended York's lead to 8-2 entering the final three innings. The Bluefish were able to get a run back in the home half of the eighth, as Luis Nunez singled to drive in Jonathan Galvez cutting the deficit to 8-3. The ninth inning was an exciting one for Bridgeport, as they began their efforts to rally back. The 'Fish would score three runs in the bottom of the ninth, with David lining out to left field, stranding the tying run at second base. A triple by Dotel and three walks in the first four at-bats of the inning led the way for Giansanti to single with one out, plating Jose Cuevas, but it was not enough as the current leaders of the First Half of the Freedom Division were able to hang on for the two run victory. Endy Chavez led the offensive efforts for the Bluefish, smacking two hits on four at-bats, driving in two and crossing the plate once. Photo provided courtesy of Dave Csordas.
