New Britain Bees News Release

(Sugar Land, TX.)- In yet another tight game in a season full of them, the New Britain Bees edged the Sugar Land Skeeters 3-2 in the middle game of three from Constellation Field.

PITCHERS OF RECORD

W: Brandon Fry (1-0)| L: Robbie Weinhardt (3-2)| SV: Shawn Gilblair (1)

A night after a combined 17 runs were scored, the pitching staffs of the Bees and Skeeters were able to keep the scoring in control tonight. Bees' right-hander Brian Dupra, who entered the game with the second best ERA in the league, made another solid start as he worked 5.2 innings and allowed just two runs on four hits. Left-hander Roy Merritt of the Skeeters was equally as good, allowing just two runs in six innings, striking out six.

The Bees' offense would manage just enough runs off Merritt and three Skeeters' relievers to ensure the Bees have a shot tomorrow at a series win. New Britain kicked off the scoring in the second inning on a Jon Jones RBI single that knocked home Jonathan Roof. The Bees would hold onto that slim lead until the fifth when Travis Scott homered for the sixth time this season, tying the game at one.

The two teams would trade single runs in their respective halves of the sixth. Craig Maddox- who entered tonight hitting .368 on the current road trip- lead off the Bees' half of the sixth with a home run, his fifth of the season. After Sugar Land scored a run in the bottom half of the inning on Jeremy Barfield's RBI single, New Britain quickly regained the lead when James Skelton doubled home Anthony Hewitt for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run.

The Bees and Skeeters will square off once more tomorrow night at 8:05 PM in the rubber game of the three-game series. Right-handers Cole Johnson for the Bees and Barrett Loux for the Skeeters will get the starts for their respective teams.

Bees Buzz: Jon Jones (eight games), Steve Carrillo (eight), and Anthony Hewitt (five) each extended their hitting streaks tonight...Shawn Gilblair worked two scoreless innings for his first save of the season and of his professional career...With his 3-4 night at the plate, Craig Maddox lifted himself into the top ten in the league in batting average (.309)...
