Revs Held In Check In Loss To Barnstormers
August 11, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
York Revolution News Release
In the midst of a recent stretch that has seen the York Revolution pile up eye-popping offensive numbers on a regular basis, the Revs were limited to just three hits by the Lancaster Barnstormers in a 4-1 loss on Tuesday evening in front of 5,862 fans at Santander Stadium. The Revs fall to 17-14 in the second half, three games behind the Barnstormers, as they go for the four-game split on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Lancaster scored in the top of the first inning on a two-out RBI single through the right side by cleanup hitter Mike McDade, plating Zach Collier who was hit by a pitch to start the game.
Revs starter Rommie Lewis was solid over the next three frames, but ran into trouble in the top of the fifth. Walks to Derrick Pyles and Juan Apodaca started the inning, and Anderson Feliz followed with a bloop RBI single to shallow right-center. After a sacrifice bunt from Collier, Lewis retired Yusuke Kajimoto on a comebacker for the second out. The Barnstormers doubled their lead, however, as Kent Matthes legged out an infield single, allowing two runs to score on the play for a 4-0 advantage. Second baseman Mikey Reynolds ranged up the middle to backhand the ball and flipped to shortstop Wilson Valdez on the desperation effort, with the throw very nearly nipping Matthes, but Feliz never slowed down allowing both runners to cross on the play.
The Revs struggled offensively throughout the night, and missed early chances to score. York stranded runners at the corners after a pair of walks in the first inning, and could not cash in on a Brandon Boggs double to right (10-game hitting streak) to lead off the fourth. York also squandered leadoff walks in the third and sixth as Boggs' double was the only hit allowed by Lancaster starter Bryan Morgado (4-5) in 5.1 innings, working around five walks to hold the Revs scoreless.
York finally rallied for a run in the bottom of the eighth. Jose Constanza reached on a leadoff infield single for just the second York hit of the night, and Valdez drew a walk to follow. Reliever Daniel Moskos recorded a strikeout for the first out, but Boggs laced an RBI single to left-center, breaking up the shutout and bringing the tying run to the plate. Right-hander Scott Gracey entered to strike out both Bryan Pounds and Andres Perez, however, and Scott Patterson worked a perfect ninth for his second save as the Revs were denied in their bid to come from behind.
Lewis (8-8) suffered the loss, charged with four runs over 6.2 innings, snapping a three-game winning streak that spanned five starts. It is his first loss since July 12 vs. Lancaster.
York's bullpen was solid, as Beau Vaughan retired all four batters faced and Tony Pena worked a scoreless top of the ninth.
York falls to 11-13 in the season's War of the Roses series and will go for a four-game split on Wednesday as Ty'Relle Harris (1-0, 2.94) makes a spot start, facing Lancaster righty Madison Boer (0-1, 9.00). It is Manufacturing Appreciation Night presented by MANTEC. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
Notes: York falls to 5-2 on its current homestand. The Revs have still won 10 of their last 12 overall at home. It marks the second time in three games that the Revs have been held to just three hits, while having posted 17 or more hits in four of five games before tonight. Boggs (2-for-3) posted two of York's three hits, and is now batting .447 (17-for-38) on his 10-game hitting streak. It is the Revs' fourth-longest streak of the season and longest since Nick Ferdinand's team-best 14-game streak, June 13-28.
