York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution made a run at a comeback on Thursday night, but dropped their series rubber match to the Camden Riversharks, 4-3 at Santander Stadium. York drops two of three in the series, and will look to rebound when hosting the Bridgeport Bluefish in the first of a four-game series that begins on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

Camden struck for a two-out run in the top of the first inning to open the scoring as Brandon Chaves slapped a single through the left side and scored on Carlos Guzman's RBI double to left-center for an early 1-0 lead.

York answered in the bottom of the second as Andres Perez tattooed a homer to left on the first pitch of the inning, his 14th of the year and 50th all-time with York, becoming the second in club history to reach that milestone.

Camden starter Bill Murphy (6-14) settled in, however, striking out eight of ten batters at one point and limiting York to just two hits and one run over five innings to earn the win.

Revs starter Cody Scarpetta stranded two in scoring position in the second and worked around leadoff singles, leaving runners at third base in both the third and fourth innings, but would not be so fortunate in the fifth. With two on and no outs, Chaves dropped down his second sacrifice bunt of the night, but Scarpetta's throw to first sailed high, allowing a run to score on the error. Guzman drove in another run on an infield single as Camden took a 3-1 lead.

The Revs nearly tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, but left fielder Zach MacPhee made a great diving catch on a line drive near the line by Eric Patterson, saving two runs.

York did inch closer in the sixth as Brandon Boggs greeted reliever Michael Click with a double to right-center and scored on a two-out single to left by Telvin Nash, pulling within 3-2.

The Revs had an opportunity to tie the game in the seventh but after reaching on a walk, James Simmons slipped attempting to advance to third on a single to right by Mikey Reynolds and had to pull up at second. What could have been a potential sac fly from Wilson Valdez on a line drive to center simply went for the second out, as reliever Dan Blewett followed with a pop up to preserve his team's one-run lead.

Camden added a crucial insurance run in the top of the eighth. Making his Sharks debut, Mat Gamel greeted reliever Josh Judy with a double to left-center and took third on a two-out passed ball before scoring an unearned run on MacPhee's RBI single to right-center. It was the fourth RBI single of the series for MacPhee, who raised his average from .178 to .196 in the three games.

York set up a ninth inning rally, again climbing within one run. The rally potentially could have been bigger as Salvador Paniagua clobbered a line drive to third but Michael Rockett made a reaching grab to spear the first out. Simmons followed with a double to left and scored as Valdez doubled to left with two outs. Camden closer Matt Gorgen rebounded to record a pop out, however, pulling into a tie for the league lead with his 30th save of the year.

Notes: The Revs fall to 12-4 in one-run games at home this season. Perez has homered in back-to-back games and has hit 11 home runs since July 14. He finishes the season series with five home runs and 22 RBI in 17 games against Camden. Perez now leads the league with 72 RBI on the season. The Revs struck out six consecutive batters as Beau Vaughan and Luis Perdomo each struck out the side in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. York finishes the season series 10-7 vs. Camden, winning four of the six meetings at home. Valdez dropped down a pair of sacrifice bunts in the contest and now has a league-leading 22 sacrifice bunts on the season, breaking his own club record of 20 set last year. York lefty Logan Williamson (7-11, 3.88) makes the start on Friday against Bridgeport. It is Battle of the Bands Night and a Guaranteed Win Friday presented by Commonwealth Connections Academy. Tickets are on sale at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
