SUGAR LAND, Texas - The Sugar Land Skeeters pushed across a pair of runs in the eighth and ninth innings to force extras, but a four-run 11th-inning proved insurmountable in a 9-6 loss to the Somerset Patriots on Thursday night at Constellation Field. The loss drops the Skeeters to 59-64 on the season with 17 games to play in the regular season.

Somerset jumped out to a big lead early, putting up a crooked number in the top of the second. Matt Fields singled down the right field line to lead off the inning. Following back-to-back flyouts to left, Nate Spears sprayed a single into the left-center alley to score Fields and break the scoring seal. James Skelton followed with a single to center to put two aboard before Robert Andino lifted Josh Geer's offering over the head of center fielder Jeff Dominguez to drive in a pair. Andino would come in to score from second on a wild pitch from Geer after the ball rattled around the backstop, giving the Patriots a 4-0 lead.

The Skeeters began to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the sixth. Dominguez pulled a one-out single through the left-side of the infield and went first-to-third on a double down the right field line from Delwyn Young to put a pair in scoring position for Sugar Land. Travis Scott punched an RBI single into center to plate Dominguez and narrow the gap to 4-1.

After the four-run second inning, starting pitcher Josh Geer settled in to put up four-straight shutout frames to close out his outing. The former member of the San Diego Padres allowed the four runs on 10 hits with a walk and two strikeouts. Following the big inning, Geer scattered five hits over his final four innings of work to keep the score at 4-0.

The Patriots added an additional run in the top of the seventh against the Skeeters bullpen. With James Parr on in relief, Michael Burgess singled to center to extend the inning. Parr then hit Fields and issued consecutive walks to Claudio and Hopkins to walk home a run, moving the score to 5-1.

The Skeeters again closed the gap to two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Young worked a leadoff walk and Scott followed with a double down the line in right to put a pair in scoring position. After a strikeout, walk and strikeout Renny Osuna pulled a two-RBI double into the left field corner to cut the gap to 5-3. Johan Limonta worked a walk to load the bases, but Daryle Ward grounded out to second to prevent the tying run from crossing the plate.

After battling back for much of the game, the Skeeters pushed across the equalizer in the bottom of the ninth with two outs. Jeff Dominguez opened the inning by drawing a walk against Andrew Carignan before Young reached for the third-straight at-bat. After a pair of groundouts, Denny Almonte was called upon as a pinch hitter. The Miami, Fla., native sprayed the 1-2 offering just inside the bag of third to drive home Young and tying the contest at five.

The Patriots pushed across four runs in the top of the 11th against Robbie Weinhardt to claim the extra inning victory over the Skeeters.
