
Blue Crabs Drop Doubleheader to Start September

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
(Lancaster PA., September 2nd 2015)--- Game one of this three game series was pushed back because of prior scheduling causing the two teams to play a doubleheader here tonight with the Barstormers winning game one 4-2, and game two 5-4.
In game one Lancaster took the lead first. In the bottom of the first, Kent Matthes lifted a fly ball out to left field allowing Jerry Owens to score to make it 1-0 Lancaster. In the top of the third, Southern Maryland would tie the game when Fred Lewis drove a homerun over the wall in right to make tie the game at 1-1.
Lancaster would reclaim the lead, and never relinquish. In the bottom of the fourth, Brian Cavazos-Galves led things off with a walk, followed by a Lance Zawadzki single to put two runners on base. Two batters later, Charlie Cutler drove in Cavazos-Galves with a sacrifice fly. After a Yusuke Kajimoto walk, Jerry Owens singled to score Zawadzki to make it 3-1. Each team exchanged runs in the fifth inning, with the Blue Crabs falling short in game one. Each team had seven hits in the first ballgame.
Despite out-hitting Lancaster and scoring first, Southern Maryland fell in the score column by the final of 5-4. In the top of the second, Southen Maryland started the scoring off with four unanswered runs spreak out through three innings. The Blue Crabs scored their first two runs on an Antone DeJesus two run homerun. It was his first homerun since May 1st against Lancaster. In the top of the third, a Bryant Nelson RBI groundout allowed Casey Stevenson to score to make it 3-0. Antone DeJesus would score again in the top of the fourth on a Zach Wilson RBI single to make it 4-0 Southern Maryland.
Lancaster put their foot on the gas pedal offensively, and scored five runs on four hits. With one out, Kent Matthes, and Brian Cavazos-Galves wach singled, followed by a Lance Zawadzki walk to load the bases. Two batters later, Kevin Rivers advanced to first on a dropped third strike allowing Matthes to score. The next hitter Juan Apodaca lashed a single to left to bring Cavazos-Galves, and Zawadzki to the plate to make it 4-3. A couple of hitters later, Jerry Owens drove in two runs to score Rivers and Apodoca to make it 5-4 Lancaster.
Southern Maryland would be held scoreless the rest of the way. Juan Apodaca, and Jerry Owens both drove in two runs for Lancaster, while Kyle Simon picked up the win out of the bullpen.
The finale of the series will take place tomorrow in Lancaster. The first pitch is set for 7:05 P.M.
