Revs Doomed by Big Inning as Winning Streak Ends

(York, Pa.): The York Revolution saw its five-game winning streak come to an end as the Long Island Ducks rode an eight-run second inning to a 9-4 victory in Tuesday night's series opener at WellSpan Park.
Denson Hull (0-1) got his second start of the year and faced the minimum in the first inning after picking off Boog Powell who had reached on a leadoff walk.
The Revs loaded the bases in the bottom of the first. Trent Giambrone led off with a first-pitch single and in his first at-bat in the United States after being activated earlier in the day, Tomo Otosaka laid down a bunt single that got under the glove of diving starting pitcher Joe Iorio along the third base line. Alejandro Rivero walked to fill the bags, and with one out, Drew Mendoza ripped a two-run single to center to give the Revs an early 2-0 lead.
The Ducks got to Hull in the second as six straight hits began the inning, including back-to-back home runs from Adeiny Hechavarria and Joe DeCarlo. Edward Salcedo drilled an RBI triple and scored on a Phil Caulfield sac fly. Lew Ford drove in a run on a double down the third base line, and Sam Travis capped the outburst with a two-run homer to left center off of reliever Tom Sutera.
Sutera pitched wonderfully after the home run, lasting 5.1 innings and giving up just one run on three hits while walking two and striking out six. He came within one out and one strikeout of matching franchise single-game records by a reliever and logged 78 pitches in silencing the Ducks through the bulk of the contest.
The Revs scored two runs off reliever Reed Hayes in the sixth on the strength of a two-run home run over the Arch Nemesis by Troy Stokes Jr., his second of the season, cutting the Long Island lead to 8-4 but got no closer.
Iorio (1-1) worked five innings for the Ducks in the winning effort, allowing only the two first-inning runs.
Long Island plated the game's final run in the top of the ninth on a DeCarlo RBI double to left-center off York reliever Tasker Strobel.
The Revs will look to even the series on Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. as Nick Raquet (2-0, 0.69) gets the ball against RHP Stephen Woods Jr. (1-0, 0.75). Notes: York's five-game winning streak was its longest since October 1-6, 2021. It is York's first home loss (3-1); the Revs had started 3-0 at home for the fifth time, and first since 2017. Sutera retired 12 of 13 at one point and has now allowed just one run in 9.1 innings on the season. Mendoza went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and is now 9-for-21 (.429) on a six-game hitting streak while driving in nine runs over the last five games.
