York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution lost both games of their twi-night doubleheader to the Somerset Patriots, falling 2-0 and 9-1 in front of 3,513 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Sunday evening. The Revs will close out their nine-game homestand looking to avoid a series sweep on Monday evening at 6:30 p.m.

Somerset starter Chris Oxspring (2-5) shut down the Revolution offense in the opener, tossing the Patriots' first complete game shutout in over two years while striking out a Patriots' season-high 12 batters in the seven inning effort. The right-hander struck out six consecutive batters at one point.

Oxspring's offense gave him all the run support needed when Josh Pressley homered off the top of the Arch Nemesis with one out in the fourth, and Elliott Ayala launched his first homerun of the season and just the 19th of his pro career to left field leading off the sixth.

In the nightcap, Somerset plated four unearned runs in the top of the first inning to take the life out of the home crowd. After a pair of errors with one out, Pressley's sac fly provided the first run, and Joe Burke later lined a three-run homer to right, also his first of the season.

Fernando Cortez' two-out RBI single to left in the second extended the lead to 5-0.

Chris Nowak hammered a solo homerun to left in the bottom of the second, pulling into a tie for the team lead with his 13th of the season, but it was York's only run all day.

Patriots starter Derell McCall (4-5) earned his second win against his former team on the season, allowing just three hits in five innings while retiring the final 11 batters that he faced. Patriot pitching combined to set down the final 17 Revolution batters faced in order to complete the doubleheader sweep.

The Patriots put it out of reach with three in the fifth. Matt Hagen drove in a run on a double to left-center, Burke picked up his fourth RBI on a single up the middle, and Norris Hopper plated one more legging out an RBI infield single.

An RBI groundout by Pressley in the sixth provided the final run.

Notes: James Shanks extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a single in the first game, but lost the streak in game two. Revs starting pitcher Matt DeSalvo made his first start since July 17, tossing two scoreless innings in the opener and retiring the first five batters he faced. It was York's first doubleheader sweep suffered since May 19, 2010. The Revs were held to a combined one run over the course of two games for the first time since July 30-31, 2010. York managed just eight hits and one run while striking out a combined 18 times in 14 offensive innings in Sunday's doubleheader. The Revs have lost back-to-back home series for the first time all season; they had won seven of their previous eight home series. It is only Somerset's second road series win all year. Revs lefty Jesus Sanchez (1-2, 9.35) will face Pats southpaw Derrick Gordon (7-2, 2.01) on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. on a Hatfield Dollar Dog Night. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
