J-Rod Jolts Ducks Past Lancaster

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 7, 2011) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 12-6 on Sunday evening in the second game of a three-game set at Bethpage Ballpark.

Lancaster plated two runs in the opening inning on RBI singles by Matt Watson and Travis Metcalf against Ducks' starter Mark Diapoules. Long Island cut the deficit in half on a RBI double by John Rodriguez in the bottom of the inning against Barnstormers' starter Cesar Carrillo. The Barnstormers pushed their lead back to two in the second when Matt Tupman's double play ball scored Wayne Lydon.

However, the game changed in the bottom of the second when the Ducks put up a seven-spot against the `Stormers. A two-run throwing error, a wild pitch scoring Kennard Jones, a three-run home run to right by Rodriguez and a RBI single by Matt Padgett put the Ducks ahead 8-3.

Lancaster pushed two across in the third, but the Ducks fired right back with three in the fourth to open up a six-run lead. Rodriguez scored on a throwing error and Kraig Binick connected for a two-run double to highlight the inning. A solo homer by Ray Navarrete in the fifth capped the Ducks' scoring for the game.

Jeremy Hill (3-1) picked up the win in relief, tossing three innings and allowing just one run. Carrillo (3-9) took the loss after lasting just one and two-third innings, allowing eight runs on five hits and four walks.

Navarrete, Rodriguez, J.R. House, Padgett, and Binick each came through with two hits. Rodriguez led the Flock with four RBI.

The Ducks complete their three-game series with the Lancaster Barnstormers Monday night. Game time is set for 7:05 PM, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. It's Autism Awareness Night at the ballpark, and the first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Puzzles, presented by Autism Speaks. Joselo Diaz takes the mound for the Ducks against Lancaster's Yunior Novoa.
