York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution jumped out to an early lead and Brett Tomko cruised to victory in a 7-3 win over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Saturday evening in front of 4,998 fans at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, MD. York took advantage of four Southern Maryland errors and four wild pitches, while pounding out 13 hits in the win. The Revs will aim to wrap up their nine-game road trip with a third consecutive series win in the rubber match on Sunday afternoon.
The Revs wasted no time in setting a club record, as the first five batters of the game all reached on base hits, a franchise first. Eric Patterson started things with a double off the left field wall and moved to third on a passed ball. Wilson Batista then singled to right past a drawn-in infield, driving in the game's first run. Andres Perez singled to right advancing Batista who then scored on a wild pitch. Andy Marte drove in Perez with a double to left, and Jeff Fiorentino made it five straight hits with a single to right-center. Fiorentino's heads up base running play allowed Marte to score as he avoided an attempted tag by second baseman Mike Richard on a ground ball by Ruddy Yan. The Blue Crabs still turned the double play, but with Fiorentino avoiding the force, Marte scored before the final out to make it a 4-0 first inning lead.
Tomko (2-5) earned his first win since May 17, allowing just four hits and two runs in six strong innings of work. He walked none and struck out a season-best eight, while retiring his final seven batters faced and 14 of his final 16. His only mistakes of the night came in the second when he hit Cyle Hankerd with a pitch, and then allowed a two-run homer to right by Jose Salas.
The Revs padded their lead in the fifth as the top of the order ignited things again. Patterson reached on an error by Richard to start the inning. Batista (3-for-5) then singled to right putting runners at the corners. Patterson crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and things got even sloppier for Southern Maryland as Perez then reached and Batista scored on a double error by third baseman Cesar Nicolas. Perez advanced to second on the third wild pitch of the night by starter Ian Marshall (5-3) and scored on Marte's second RBI double of the night.
Southern Maryland scored its final run on an RBI single by Jose Julio-Ruiz in the bottom of the eighth.
York 's Corey Thurman (4-5, 4.90) gets the ball in Sunday's finale against Southern Maryland's Gaby Hernandez (1-8, 7.04). First pitch is set for 2:05 p.m., and Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, YorkRevolution.com, and on the Shoutcast phone app (YorkRevs) beginning at 1:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
