Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release
WALDORF, Md. - The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs were defeated by the York Revolution 7-3 as starting pitcher Ian Marshall struggled on the mound to put the Blue Crabs down early tonight at Regency Furniture Stadium. York would tack on four runs in the bottom of the first, but Southern Maryland would strike back just an inning later by adding two of their own. The Revolution would redirect momentum in their favor in the fifth however, by adding three more tallies to their lead, which the Blue Crabs would be unable to respond to. Despite the loss, Southern Maryland remains in first place and three games ahead of the Long Island Ducks in the standings as the Ducks dropped a 3-1 decision to the Lancaster Barnstormers tonight.
York would not hesitate to get ahead of the Crabs as five different players would tally hits off of pitcher Marshall in the first inning. Multiple wild pitches, a passed ball and an error wouldn't help Southern Maryland's cause as the Revs tacked on four runs by the end of the frame. An inning later Jose Salas would take advantage of outfielder Cyle Hankerd being hit by a Brett Tomko pitch as he would send a two-run home run over the right field wall to bring the Blue Crabs within two. The early scoring wouldn't be all for York though, as they strung together three more runs in the fifth inning for the 7-2 score in favor of the Revolution. Outfielder Jose-Julio Ruiz would chip in one last run for the Blue Crabs by singling to left field to score outfielder Sean Smith, extending his hitting streak to seven games in the eventual 7-3 final.
