York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution offense finally enjoyed a breakout afternoon, but the Camden Riversharks outdid them winning a 15-10 slugfest in front of 4,092 fans for "Baseball in Education Day" at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Thursday afternoon. The Revs, coming off their best offensive showing of the season, will welcome the Bridgeport Bluefish for the first of a three-game weekend series on Friday night at 6:30 p.m.

The Revs used four home runs, the last of which was an Andres Perez grand slam in the sixth inning, to erase a 9-0 deficit and pull within just two, ultimately landing the tying runs in scoring position. But the Riversharks responded with insurance runs of their own in the late innings to stave off the Revs' bid to pull off the greatest comeback in franchise history.

Camden staked themselves an early 4-0 lead, scoring four times in the first inning after Revs starter Chris Cody (0-2) had the bases empty and two outs. Drew Macias drove in the first run on a single to right field, and Steve Doetsch later walked on a 3-2 pitch to force in a run. Jake Eigsti bounced a two-run single into left capping the big inning.

The Sharks scored twice more in the third on an Eigsti double, again mounting a rally after Cody had two outs and no base runners.

Brian Burgamy (5-for-6) made it 7-0 with an RBI single up the middle in the fourth, and Eduardo Perez later added a two-run single to left as Camden's hefty lead reached 9-0.

After Camden starter Bryan Corey (1-1) retired all nine batters the first time through the order, the Revs came to life in the bottom of the fourth as Scott Grimes homered to the opposite field, and Stephen Douglas went yard on the very next pitch to make it 9-2. Chris Nowak later doubled and scored on an RBI single to left-center by Michael Hernandez.

Grimes cracked another home run in the fifth inning, this time to left field, bringing York within 9-4.

For Grimes, it marked the fourth time in his Revs career that he hit two homers in the same game, matching Jason Aspito for the club record. He also clubbed his 34th and 35th home runs as a member of the Revs, moving past Matt Esquivel and tying Matt Dryer for second most on the club's all-time career list. He also notched his 17th and 18th career home runs at Sovereign Bank Stadium, taking over the club's all-time record for homers by a Revs batter at the Vault.

After Camden added a run in the top of the sixth inning on a Doetsch single to left to make it 10-4, reliever Chris Rollins issued two walks and hit a batter to load the bases in the bottom of the sixth. Perez took advantage, launching a towering grand slam home run to left-center, bringing York within 10-8. The Revs pushed the tying runs into scoring position with one out in the sixth, but reliever Zach Hammes recorded a strikeout and a groundout to maintain Camden's suddenly slim lead.

The Riversharks applied the dagger in the seventh when Felix Pie drove an RBI double to right and Burgamy followed with a two-run homer to right field. Lloyd Turner then rapped an RBI single off the left field wall in the eighth to make it 14-8.

James Shanks crossed the plate on a passed ball in the bottom of the eighth, but the teams only traded runs as Eduardo Perez singled home one more for the Sharks in the ninth. Andres Perez did collect his fifth RBI of the game for York on a single to left in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Burgamy and Pie each scored four times for the Riversharks who out-hit York 19-11. Eigsti added four RBI out of the eighth spot in the lineup. Eduardo Perez (3-for-4) finished the series 7-for-10, and reached base 12 of 15 times in the three games.

The Revs will look to rebound against the Bluefish on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. as Omar Javier (0-0) makes his first start for York, facing Bridgeport's Matt Pike (0-1). It is Children's Miracle Network Night as the Revs will wear special jerseys with a silent auction presented by PSECU. It's also the first Friday Night Frenzy of the season, with a pregame party along Brooks Robinson Plaza presented by CertaPro Painters. There will also be a 2012 magnet schedule giveaway presented by Pizza Hut to the first 2,500 fans. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
