New England Revolution News Release
New York - Forward Taylor Twellman and goalkeeper Matt Reis were among the 32 players on the official roster released for the 2006 MLS All-Star game, which will be played Saturday, Aug. 5, against English Premier League champion Chelsea FC at the Chicago Fire's Toyota Park. Twellman and Reis join New England teammates Clint Dempsey and Shalrie Joseph on the All-Star inactive roster, which was released on Tuesday by the league.
Because the Revolution face Chivas USA on Sunday, Aug. 6, in Los Angeles - as part of a doubleheader that includes FC Barcelona vs. Club Deportivo Chivas Guadalajara - all four Revolution All-Stars will be unavailable for Saturday's game against Chelsea.
With his selection, Twellman earned his fourth-career MLS all-star nod. Also selected in 2002, 2003 and 2005, Twellman was the MVP of the 2005 All-Star game in Columbus, Ohio. This season, the reigning MLS MVP is the Revs' leading scorer with eight goals and three assists in 20 games, ranking fifth in MLS in goals scored.
Reis garnered the second all-star selection of his career, also drawing a nod in 2005. He currently leads MLS in saves while sporting a 1.30 goals against average with five shutouts.
Dempsey and Joseph were earlier announced as MLS All-Star "First IX" selections finishing among the top five vote-getters in the midfield by a vote of players, coaches/administrators, media and fans. However, both were replaced on the game-day 18-man roster because of the Revs' game against Chivas USA.
The Revolution next sees action on Wednesday, Aug. 2, when the team enters play in the 2006 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Revs will travel to the United Soccer League 1st Division entry Rochester Raging Rhinos for a 7:30 p.m. game at PAETEK Park in Rochester, N.Y. The game will be broadcast live on revolutionsoccer.net. The Revolution then travel to Los Angeles for the match against Chivas USA.
