Final Rosters Unveiled for 2006 Sierra Mist All-Star Game

August 1, 2006 - Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Tuesday, August 1, 2006) - The stage is set for the most competitive All-Star game in American professional sports: Rosters for 2006 MLS All-Star Game (Saturday, Aug. 5 at 6:30 p.m. ET, Live on ESPN from TOYOTA PARK in Bridgeview, Ill.) were finalized today. For the MLS All-Stars, 21 players had previously been announced via the "First XI" voting process and selections made by All-Star Coach Peter Nowak of D.C. United and MLS Commissioner Don Garber. The final 11 spots were selected by the voting process and the coach's decision. In the voting process, fans, media, players and coaches/general managers each comprised an equal share of the final tally.

Due to injury, Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan (hamstring strain) and Colorado Rapids midfielder Pablo Mastroeni (knee sprain), will not be available to play in the game. Coach Nowak replaced those two players on the 18-man game-day roster with midfielder Ricardo Clark and defender Eddie Robinson, both of the Houston Dynamo. This is the first All-Star selection for both players, and brief bios of each player follow the Chelsea FC roster.

Two-time defending English Premier League champions Chelsea FC brings an impressive 23-man roster that includes 11 players who represented their respective countries at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany this summer.

More information on the latest additions to the MLS All-Star Game-Day Roster:

Ricardo Clark Midfielder Houston Dynamo Born: February 10, 1983

A tireless midfielder, Ricardo Clark's athleticism and natural ability to win possession have allowed him to become one of the elite young players in MLS. Clark has started all 20 games for the Dynamo this season, tallying two goals and two assists, but more importantly, his presence in midfield allows for his teammates, including fellow All-Star Dwayne De Rosario, to attack freely. In 2005, Clark was named July MLS Honda Player of the Month and was included on the MLS Select team that faced international powerhouse Real Madrid on August 24 in Spain.

Eddie Robinson Defender Houston Dynamo Born: June 19, 1978

Coming off the best year of his career, Robinson leads a tough Dynamo back line. Robinson's speed and aggressive nature allow him to be one of the more feared defenders in the league. In 2005, he led an impressive San Jose Earthquakes defense to a team record 12 shutouts. A threat on set pieces, Robinson has scored two goals and added three assists this season. A North Carolina graduate, Robinson is now in his sixth season with Major League Soccer.
