Revolution's Alston To Visit South Africa With Generation adidas

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - New England Revolution defender Kevin Alston, a member of Major League Soccer's Generation adidas program, will travel to South Africa from Nov. 27 - Dec. 8 for a training trip that will include three matches, including two against reserve teams of two of South Africa's top clubs. The participants will also attend several special events, including the 2010 FIFA World Cup Draw and the opening of the first FIFA Football for Hope Centre.

The Generation adidas team, which is comprised of some of the top young players in MLS, will depart from Washington, D.C., on Friday, Nov. 27, and will conduct its first of five training sessions in South Africa on Sunday, Nov. 29.The team will play three matches during the trip, including at least two against reserve teams from the Premier Soccer League, the top professional league in South Africa. Alston and the rest of the Generation adidas players will open with a match against the Orlando Pirates' reserves on Monday, Nov. 30, while they'll also face AJAX Capetown's reserve team on Sunday, Dec. 6. An additional match is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 3, against an opponent which is yet to be determined.

The 12-day trip will include stays in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. In addition to the playing experience, the 18-man squad will also have the chance to take in the sights and sounds of South Africa with visits to both Nelson Mandela House (Nov. 30) and the Apartheid Museum (Dec. 1). The players will also make two appearances, at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Draw on Friday, Dec. 4, and the opening of the first FIFA Football for Hope Centre on Saturday, Dec. 5.

"I'm really looking forward to this trip and the chance to visit South Africa," said Alston. "It's a great group of players and it'll be fun to play with all of them for a couple of weeks. The schedule they've laid out for us is pretty cool, especially being able to go to the World Cup draw."

Ten of Major League Soccer's 15 teams will be represented on the trip, with FC Dallas leading the way with five players.
