New England Revolution News Release

The 2006 MLS Eastern Conference playoff race is shaping up to be a thriller: five points separate third through sixth places with only four postseason berths up for grabs. Third-place New England hosts two key games in the upcoming week that are crucial to the playoff picture: the New York Red Bulls under former U.S. World Cup coach Bruce Arena, and Eastern Conference leader D.C. United with teenage phenom Freddy Adu.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, the Revolution welcomes the New York Red Bulls and new head coach Arena to Gillette Stadium. Since Arena's arrival at the beginning of August, the Red Bulls have become a playoff contender, just one point out of fourth place. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

Having already clinched a playoff spot with the best record in MLS, Adu and his D.C. teammates meet New England in another meeting in one of Major League Soccer's fiercest rivalries on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The teams have met twice this season already with D.C. pulling out a controversial 1-0 victory in D.C. on June 3, while the teams played to a 1-1 draw on June 17 at Gillette Stadium behind New England's Andy Dorman's game-tying goal in the closing minutes of play. United also features nine 2006 MLS All-Stars from the team that defeated English Premier League champion Chelsea, 1-0, in the annual MLS All-Star game.

The Revolution will have several media opportunities in advance of the two games, including availability after the New England Patriots' press conference at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 6, prior to the Pats' practice session. Revolution players and coaches will also be available after their training sessions on Thursday, Sept. 7, Friday, Sept. 8, Monday, Sept. 11 and Tuesday, Sept. 12.
